Worse, worse and worse. And not by some small margin. It is significant.

I don't mean to be flip about it, but that is really just what it boils down to. I can write a lot of other words, but that won't really change the bottom line.

Best regards,
Adam

Unfortunately I can't tell you how the 1840s compare with the HD800 or T1 - but I can give a brief comparison with the HD600.  The 1840's are lighter and have stronger build.  Very comfortable - but headband cushion still needs some work.  Tonally the two are very similar.  Both quite neutral - but HD600 remains the more natural sounding in my eyes.  SRH1840 is very flat - with no real mid bass hump and better extension into the lower bass.  It also is slightly brighter than the HD600.

Soundstage is similar - but the 1840 does have a little extra clarity and separation, and IMO images slightly better.

For overall value though - the HD600 remains king.  If you can pick up an 1840 for the right price (I saw one in the FS recently at AUD 450) - then it's worth getting.

Not sorry I bought the 1840 - have thoroughly enjoyed it so far - although probably looking to move onward and upward as soon as I can afford it.  HD800 still beckons.

" HD800 still beckons."

Thanks Mike

I'm going to make sure I scrape the cash together first - then arrange to hopefully buy form the FS section closer to the time of my next trip to US (I'd imagine around April/May next year).  That way I can avoid the freight (and hopefully customs cost) of bringing them to NZ.

That's the plan anyway.

hd600 sounds in my rig is like heavenly good.

  Amongst the supermodels (hd800 colorware version & HE500 ) , i regard  hd600  the ugly

duckling. A very ugly one to be honest  :D

it terms of captivating my soul , it beats my hd800 period . Hd800 is just a "B + " performer in

this aspect. unfortunately, this is one aspect i could not compromise

but then..maybe my rig not good enuff to drive HD800

i noticed  the benchmark dac ( with good powercord ) headphone amp drives HD800 quite ok

because of how good hd600 sounds ,  I need to get aftermarket cable for HD800.

"HD600 if properly driven, it can play with the big boys"--Yes! Yes!Yes!

Ooh nice, AudioMinor. Please do tell how it sounds like, since I'm also looking at a barely used AudioMinor cable at eBay for only $99. Surprised that the seller indicated he paid $250+shipping for it!

Mine was $190 including both adapters. Mini xlr to XLR and mini xlr to TRS. Shipped
post #4497 of 8178
Without adapters and XLR termination alone would be $130

Just got a pair of HD600s and I'm extremely happy with them. They sound excellent and are so cheap.
