For you own safety, and the safety of your wallet, don't ever put your ears in a stax. period. :D

I sure would like to try STAX and HD800, but don't have the ideal amp for it and my funds are limited for now :o

So my advice is : Buy my HD580 ! Cheap , equivalent to HD600 and insanely near to HD800 when we know it's a 20 years old senn.

Hey all, considering adding a pair of he 400s to the collection to try out the planar sound.  My question is how different are they from the 600s.  Are they different enough to justify the cost? Or is it more of the same flavor in a different package?

So how does this sound on a HD600?

Ugh. OK, it's just my opinion, but I hated the HE-400s. I love the HE-500s and HE-6s, so I'm not a HiFiMAN hater. I would suggest you save your pennies for the HE-500s or look in a different direction. If you're looking for a bass-heavy pair of cans at around the same price, go for the V-Moda M100s.

Nope. All you need to make the HD800s sing is a Bottlehead Crack. $279. (Of course, it works equally well with the HD600s.)

So for anyone out there who wants a pair of HD800s, but doesn't have the cash, I suggest you buy a used HD800 cable. In fact, I have a second used HD800 cable I can sell you for just a couple hundred dollars. It's a great way to get HD800 quality on the cheap...

,, new discovery..i need to wait until i have new cable for my hd800
