Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread - Page 274

Is it worth it to change the stock cables on the HD600? The one that comes with the headphone is too long, and I prefer something around 4-5 feet.

If there are perceivable differences in sound, then that's a bonus. I just want a solid cable that looks great and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

The stock cable from HD650 should do it, I think (eBay or order from Sennheiser). Not sure about the length, though.

Downloading now. The DVD-A downmixed "Deadwing" is the best album SQ-wise... All the rest I have in 24/96 vinyl rips.

CDs are horrible.

600 and 650 cable are the same length.  650 cable is definitely more "solid".

Get one of those and reterminate it yourself.

There's sooooooo many contradictory statements about burn in. Is it real or NOT????? I've had mine for about two weeks now. They've sounded incredible from the beginning. I THINK they might sound better now then they did in the beginning, but who knows.

I personally have a Cardas cable and you could strangle a Jabba with it, not sure it really gives any sonic difference though - I don't remember, I've changed it more than decade ago with all different hardware. Stock HD-600 cable is just flimsy, so it's worth changing it from aesthetic point at least. The stock one from HD-650 seems to be decent and inexpensive.

I would make my own cables if I know how to :(

Then again I'm idle most of the time so I think learning to make one would be cool.

I think 90% of the burn-in factor is your hearing adaptation. And the rest 10% is the actual hardware burn-in. :)

Also depends on the hardware.. if it has moving/mechanical parts - then it's more likely to improve over (relatively short) time.

I don't believe in ridiculous 100-200 hour claims, though.

It's 10 ft, though.

I really need a short one, unfortunately.

Oh well, I've got birthday money to spend on anyways so it's off to scour sites for good customs.

There are some eBay sellers in China that make cables to order. I got a 5' cable for my HD558 for $17 and its very nice quality with braided outer shealth and gold connectors.

Make sure it's a good quality cable though; you don't want to compromise sound quality just for a shorter cable.

Mine seemed to tighten up in the very first couple of hours but it could have been brain burn-in. They haven't changed in any perceivable way since then. HOWEVER, don't forget people, that doesn't mean you won't continually find new love for your HD600 and notice new things along the way. The HD600 continues to surprise me from time to time but there's no evidence that the sound signature is actually changing.
