Seen on Kijiji Montreal last month: This guy was selling his brand new HD-600's.  Reason: "Got them as a gift but I already have Bose headphones."

Man, I'd hate to be the one who gave him those Senns... talk about being under-appreciated.

At the LA Headfi Meet I got a chance to listen to my HD600's through the DNA Stratus.  It was very impressive; I'll just re-state the observation that the HD600 scales up considerably with better amplification.

(listening to Man of Steel Soundtrack Soundtrack right now with the HD600's + Crack, truly amazing)

I'm presently listening to the album "The Information" by Beck w/HD600 w/Cardas Fat Pipe cable & Burson Soloist; Source : TEAC PD-H600 w/internal DAC & the sound is quite simply astounding.  Sounds that I've heard before are much more defined/refined, clearer & the separation in the voices & instruments + special effects are ALL there & there is no blur whatsoever.  I've had the HD600 for a few years now & after leaving them aside for a while & then listening to them again with different gear (Asgard, Burson, integrated amp) they never fail to impress me all over again & yes the smile of my face gradually appears also.bigsmile_face.gif I've owned the HD800, the RS1i & LCD rev.2 & have sold all of them eventually.  It comes down to a question of personal taste & ear IMHO.  But I never get tired of these babies.  Love these headphones.  I would love to hear them on the GS-X via balanced, I'm sure that'll be quite an experience. L3000.gif

Im quite sure the guy who bought them didnt know their value either. If you know their value, you most likely know also if someone will be able to appriciate them.

This is true. Probably someone who had plenty of money knew how much he liked his Bose headphones, so they figured they'd buy him something more expensive, and didn't do enough research.

Just bring my HD600 and Aune T1 to office, 3 good friends come away impressed, while other 2 "running away" (I think they afraid liking the sound and wanting to buy one...wink_face.gif)

It was a success!!!

I bought myself  He500 with ALO cables .Run them with lyr using  mullard

tubes/siemen gold pin E88cc/ siemen cca top of the line tubes in a dedicated studio

like power line . I even use the top of the line snake oils which is more expensive than He600.

I can hear the difference in using different power cord in my power line okay.

Although some of us here disagree .Hmm Even my rca is way  much expensive than HD600 .

Okay.. I was hoping this combos will kick my hd600 off the   park.  Results: the sound was

good but i could not detect the full emotion which will evoke my innermost feeling.

When i compared to my hd600 with my modded tube amps using the cca siemens 1962ish ..

the HE500 combo is way of of the league.

HD600 makes me realize that  it is not the prat,  clarity ,separation ,airiness, black

background , 3D midrange  or anything people like to associate with sound  that i should seek when listening to music

HD600 makes me realize what is important in music is the emotion, intimacy & believability

which could touch my soul up to a point i could  literally had tears in my eyes.

 personal taste? Maybe..

Solid state rig? If I was in don't position/budget, I'd get the Schiit "Uber-Bifrost" DAC ($350 w/o USB.. or $450 w/USB) & "Asgard 2" amp ($250). I like Violectric's offerings as well (I have the V800 & V200).. they have a "sister company" called Lake People and have some terrific amps that are like slightly scaled back/down versions (i.e. G109-P amp) of their flagship Violectric products (i.e. V200 amp). Build quality and design is going to remain top notch. I can't recommend their stuff enough... same with Schiit's stuff.

Tube amp? Lots of options.. and your Beyer's have enough impedance to where you can use an OTL amp with it, too. I'd suggest the Bottlehead Crack (w/ Speedball).. it's DIY.. but peruse the FS forum and you'll see fully built ones pop up from time to time. Lots of HD600/HD650/HD800 owners have the Crack and their experience with it has been overwhelmingly positive (from what I've read). I have a Bottlehead Crack (w/ Speedball upgrade, etc.) & use the ODAC with it to feed the HD800.. I couldn't be happier with the combo. I'd only upgrade from it when I'm ready to drop $1500+ on an amp (i.e. Eddie Current Super 7). The Garage1217.com amps.. while not quite as aesthetically pleasing (unless you dig the "open chassis" look) as some other amps.. have a great rep for build and SQ. Th G1217 amps can run both 6v & 12v tubes, so you'll have tons of rolling options at your disposal.. you'll also be able to drive a wider variety of phones due to selectable output impedance. I haven't personally owned/heard their amps, but read quite a bit about them and they seem to have a very good rep. Very affordable, as well. You can DIY it or buy a prebuilt amp (direct from G1217) for very little over the DIY parts price.

I read your advice to this guy and with further research and opinions of others, I will be going with the bifrost uber (don't know if I should go usb or not) + asgard 2.

Anyways, point being my asgard 2 should be here by Monday at the latest.

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I've been watching this thread for a while. Just wanted to speak up and say that I tonight I picked up a pair of HD600! Found em 5 months old at a good price where I live in Ottawa, ON. I'm listening to them as we speak!

Before these I have owned DT880 600ohm, HD650, and RS1i (which were all great) . All I will say right now is that I am definitely really happy with my purchase! I will post more on what I think as I spend more time with them. Hopefully contribute some reviews and comparisons in the near future too to the community.

Cheers,

Justindth

Couldn't agree more. I found it was very easy to see why the he500 was a superior can in so many ways, but it just really lacked the emotion that the hd600s have. Had the same experience with my LCD2s. I (mistakenly) sold my first pair of HD600 thinking bigger was going to be better, but there's no way I'd ever let my current pair go.

   I listen to   "Ahmad_Jamal_-_Blue_Moon" .

It took me seconds to fully appreciate the jazz music thru my old timer HD600.

Play this track 3X ..which equal to  9 mins X 3 = 27 mins of listening to same track

You know  jazz is not my type of music previously right & in fact i hate it

never had i thought i would say this

" My hd600 beginning to let me appreciate jazz sound"

  then i listen to  "Morricone__The_Mission_-_Gabriel's_Oboe_(A_Piece_For_Cello_And_Piano)"

I was completely engulfed in the emotion of the violin sound until I  had slight tears..

yes..no voices just violins & piano.. but i felt the emotions..

Guess i need your handkerchief after all ..dont give me a used tissue paper ..biggrin.gif
