Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread - Page 236

Refurb HD558's are often available for just over $100. I think it's the best upgrade to replace an HD2XX without needing an amp or DAC added to the chain.

HD 558 then. ;)

EDIT: ^ What he said.

Edit: It turns out I might already have an amp. I got this as a gift recently: http://www.amazon.com/PreSonus-FireBox-Firewire-Recording-Interface/dp/B0006VYH1Q/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

It connects through firewire and has a 1/4 inch headphone output. You guys think this would be good for a high end headphone?

Quick question to ProtegeManiac: the HD 201s with STOCK pads sound too bassy? For the year I had them with the stock pads, there was so little bass and the trebles were so focused it was often painful to listen to metal. However, when I upgraded the pads, the bass went above what I would say is normal. I still prefer the new pads, but the stock 201s IMO are so tinny it's painful. And btw, I do own the Sennheiser IE6 which I love and think are brilliant. I just like over ears for my desk due to the naturally larger sound stage. Believe it or not, I still use my HD 201s over the IE6s at my desk just for that reason.

So, how do the HD 558s compare to the 4xx series? When I tried the HD 438 I was really disappointed in how it sounded for the price. Compared to my HD 201s with the velour pads installed, the HD 438 had a better sound stage but not much else. The fit on the HD 438 was also WAY too loose. They fell off my head when I simply leaned back while watching a movie! If the HD 5xx series fits the same then I won't like them either.

There's only one way to findout! ;) I'm sure its at least decent. The HD600 isn't very picky with amps and it doesn't require a ton of power. Let us know what you think.

I think the 558 are a fair way better. The 4xx series are closed and lacked a bit in terms of clarity and detail levels. The 500s are open and have a superior soundstage and are more detailed, airy and clearer. Mind you this is a comparison with a 558 and 449 models.

I don't know where I can test an HD 600 ;(. I live in Santa Clara, California if you know of a place.

Oh my bad, I guess I assumed you already had the HD600.

There might be head-fi meets in your area. Or look into high end and pro audio stores. Unfortunately sometimes its hard to find opportunities to try cans in person. Good luck.

Appreciating the HD600's a lot more now. Been listening to some a cappella music recently and it sounds freakin awesome. Been listening funnily enough to the Pitch Perfect soundtrack, and found tweaking the treble just a bit makes female vocals stand out a bit more. The male vocals really do sound outstanding.

Here's a sample for your enjoyment.

Sounds a hell of a tonne better on the actual soundtrack but gives an idea.

Doesn't really pick up until 1:20~

Can someone tell me how the new Misery Signals album sounds in their HD 600? Listening to this I feel like it would sound so brilliant through a nice pair of headphones.

Stream. http://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PL2WYXVAvhPE6shCbBOHL6RYU1ei9CgEp5&feature=player_embedded&v=9GmGAhj1ET4

The rest of the album plays automatically once the first track ends.

Just listening to that first track one word that I could use to describe that sound is Lush. Gives a good idea of space. Sounds good smily_headphones1.gif

Hi, can anybody tell me if its safe to use the Sennheiser HD 600 with schiit asgard 1 amp?

I have currently the HE-400 and asgard and I am thinking of adding a Hd 600 for the more relaxing moments, but dont want to get another amp (also have Fiio E17 as a travel amp).

The Asgard was actually voiced using the HD600. I actually own(ed) the pairing, and it's great.
