It seems like we have fairly similar musical tastes, with the exception of metal. In addition to the genres you listed, I also love how electronic and deep house sounds with my HD-600 and NFB 12.1. Bass is so tight, punchy and quick.

After A/Bing a few songs with my HD600s and HD650s tonight, I have discovered a few things. The HD600 sounds so much more balanced and less colored. The HD650 wipes the floor with the HD600 in regards to bass quantity. I love the thump and rumble from certain songs on the HD650. Classical/strings/piano sound noticeably better to me on the HD600.

For real though, the HD650 is definitely colored and has a noticeably warmer/darker sound to it compared to the HD600. There's a reason it says "For Digital Natural Sound" on the box.

It seems the first night I had my HD650s I was just in the honeymoon phase. The bass really is awesome on them though... I just wish I could have all the qualities of the HD600s with the bass of the HD650s. That would be freaking awesome.

And so help me god, if someone tells me the HD700s are exactly what I'm looking for, I'm going to cry.

Don't you get that with the HE400? What's lacking there?

Comfort. Warmth. Excitement. They sound great but they leave me wanting more.

Has anyone tried the National amp with the HD600? Any other favorite portable amps currently?

As far as a portable goes - they do sound really good with the Arrow (4G) IMO.

One problem : the time you spend gaming will wear out the pads too quickly and thus change the sound too soon.

There's a Creative that comes with its own USB DAC with surroudn simulation for around $50; my brother (who knows speakers and nothing about headphones) gave my cousin that as a gift following my recommendation. All his games are FPS, he says he now understands why I'm very anal about sound, regardless of how many channels are involved, so I suppose it works well enough for him. Got it from Fry's. My games are all Total War or Dawn of War (and Darksiders) but I spent 2hours playing COD with these headphones on my brother's rig and I have to say they work well enough to tell you where the bullets might be coming from, and for spectacular SFX SQ, too.

I use these a lot with battlefield, I don't have any surround processor but the audio is quite good.  Directional cues are more less on track with that of my 5 channel home theater.  The best part is the level of detail that they pick up for distant sounds.  I can hear a tank rolling in way before it gets there, and jet fly-bys are almost real sounding.  I haven't used these as much with cod but I'm sure they will do well considering battlefield usually has more going on.

BTW I use them optical out of Xbox 360 > Nuforce HDP > 600s

I'm mentioning it in this thread about once a month it seems  Doing that you get the best of both worlds...HD600 neutral balanced sound and epic bass w/o any distortion (if done properly...e.g. don't go over 0dB in the tuning).  It gets about 80% of the bass I get on my Denon's.

Finnaly i got my HD 600s. Jeaay. Like i said, I lived with my hd 650 about 1.5 year before this.

And what can I say, only lissened about one hour to the HD 600 but thats enough. Its more neutral and you forgetting about the sound of headphone, it allows you to focus on  the music. The HD 650 still sounds more refined though. BUT  I LISSEN RIGHT NOW AT THIS MOMENT AND I LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKE THE HD 600 !!, sorry, but I have a big smile on my face.

What can i say really... HD 600 just playes the music. HD 650 is trying to put up a "show" with its midbass hump and more 3D soundstage but in the end its just giving a WOW effect, while the hd 600 just plays the music.

I think ill keep the hd 650 though, cause its really fun to lissen to.

But HD 600 is surley gonna be my main headphone !

Nice one.

If you take off the back grills it will open up the sound stage a lot more. They work really well for gaming, I use them with bf3 all the time and I always have a good idea of where Im getting shot from.
