Certainly made me laugh, thanks for that.

No joke, they easily beat the likes of the LCD-2/3 and the HD800. Some have even compared them to stax.

Sorry but I can't take you seriously.

I have heard the HD600's and I have had the HD650's (considered by Sennheiser to be superior to the HD600 and by most other people I know who have heard both)

The only reason people prefer the HD600 to the HD650's is because to some people, including myself, the HD650's are too dark.

To say that they are better than the HD800 is a joke but I can fully respect someone liking the HD600's more than the HD800's because they have a totally different sound and that person might quite reasonably prefer the HD600 but to say they are superior is comical.

As regards the LCD2 comparison, I have not heard the LCD3's, the LCD's are not on another level to the HD650's I have owned or the HD600's I have heard but are on another stratosphere. There really is no comparison that can be made and I am sorry but if you feel that they are better for you then that's fine but to say they are actually better than the HD800's and the LCD2/3's is just comical.

May I ask what amps you have heard the LCD's and HD800's with and what made you come to theses conclusions?

About the subject HD600 compared with LCD-2 or Sennheiser HD800 I've talk with Jude Mansilla. He told me "I still have the HD 600, and I still love it. It does not have the ultimate resolution attainable with the LCD-2 or Sennheiser HD 800, but it scales up in great rigs fantastically, and is still one of my favorite headphones of all time. I still recommend the Sennheiser HD600 *frequently*"

Would have been hard pressed to find better a decade ago.  But yes, there are headphones that send people packing away from Head-Fi.  When I got my O2 I pretty much packed it in.  Then again when I got my LCD-2 when they were released.

Is the 600 better than the 800 or LCD-2 on technical merit?  No.  Is it more neutral than either?  Yes.  The 650 is also slightly better on technical merit but again not neutral so...

I would not say the HD600's are more neutral than the LCD2 r2's. You just need the right amp for the LCD's.

On my Master-6 they are far from dark sounding, in fact I would say they are very neutral and only fractionally more subdued in the hf's than the HE-6's and T1's both of which are ofter considered bright, although not in my experience.

Compared to the HD800 then probably you are right

I'd love to scream from the mountain tops that the LCD-2 is more neutral.  I own both the Rev1 and Rev2.  But fact remains that current production Senn 600's are more neutral.

Really loving this new HD-600. Strangely enough I don't like it at all with stock cable or HD-650 cable. Sorry.

With a good DAC and decent cable, there's no lack of sub-bass or treble. I would say the treble isn't as extended as that of my Q701, but it's a bit easier on the ears just slightly for some music.

Level of detail with a DAC/amp is impressive. Especially with the DHC wire. The HD-600 has been on my head for the last few weeks about 95% of the time when I use headphones.

With the current setup, the HD-600 isn't as forgiving of source files as recabled HD-598 I think. It will take me awhile to figure out which one is more fun and engaging for MY music. The HD-600 might now have the edge. Depending on sound file, the sound is generally crystal clear. Most music just sounds natural and lifelike. Never used that word to describe a headphone before biggrin.gif

Here's a few (early) comparisons of my CA-0363 recabled HD-598 to the DHC recabled HD-600. Added in the Q701 for fun (some (or all?) different than K702)

Soundstage Size:

Q701 >HD-598 > HD-600

Treble quantity:

Q701 > HD-600 > HD-598

Sub-bass:

Q701 | HD-600 >HD-598

Sound Clarity:

Q701 > HD-600 > HD-598

Warmth: (none of them are too warm, like the HD-650)

HD-600 > HD-598 > Q701 (this isn't thin, cold or analytical even remotely IMO. Slightly warm and full sounding)

Detail:

HD-600 | Q701 (more testing needed) > HD-598 (i'll test this more, might not be 100% correct)

Forwardness of mids:

HD-600 (dhc) | HD-598 > Q701 (Q701 and HD-600 have more forward upper mids than HD-598)

The above would change a lot with stock cables. Yeah..don't say it. Q701 doesn't change much with recable due to internal stock wiring.

BTW I'd take the 598 over the HD-600 with stock cable any day. Just doesn't sound the same. I don't want to open a can of worms here, so just ignore that.

I'd actually prefer the HD-580 to HD-600 with stock cable.

HD-580 has better detail than the HD-600 with stock cable and a more engaging sound. I don't think it's less accurate and more colored. Maybe.

HD-600 with DHC sounds like an HD-598 on steroids. Yeah really..it's actually just as fun and engaging I think. Rock music is especially impressive with the HD-600.

I also find the HD-600 incredibly easy to amp. It even sounds great from a $40 XiF-Fi Go! Seriously..Listened to that for hours yesterday without complaints, but I do use another DAC/Amp.

The HD-600 also benefits more from a DAC than the 598 it seems. HD-600 with stock cable kind of isn't fun or engaging to ME. I guess only due to my music preferences.

Too bad the HD-600 is now $400. Don't know if it's worth that.

What I plan on doing is comparing my Q701, HD-600 and 598 and see what comes out as a favorite 6 months from me. HD-600 with a good cable is very impressive. Nearly everything sounds good! I often find myself listening to stuff in my collection that i'd normally skip.

Right now I'm liking the HD-600 more than the 598, so maybe they'll be my #1 favorite soon. Even over the Q701 maybe? Seems the HD-600 (to my ears) is held back a lot by it's cable. Sorry, if that annoys you, but that's just been my experience.

Agreed on the HD 600 improving with different cables, with the caveat that they don't improve so much by being run balanced like the HD 650 does. I also found that the 650 cable was an improvement over the 600's stock cable but many disagree.

I know people are annoyed by cable discussions, but I'm all for making my HD-600 sounding as good as possible without spending a lot of money. My idea is to make an HD-600 cable from Cat6 wire and some cheapy Belden 1192A wire ($1 foot). I bet with the 1192 wire it will offer a similar sound as the DHC. Probably not quite as clear. I was reading on Headfonia that Cat6 wire gives the HD-600 a massive soundstage. It'll be funny to hear. I bought some Cat6 wire from Monoprice. Now I just need some connectors.

Someone told me that the HD-650 has the same internal wire as the stock HD-600 cable, but I don't think this is true. Possibly.

The HD-650 cable seems to give the 600 an impression of slightly more bass and more treble. Strangely enough the HD-650 cable was awful for the HD-580. Wonder why? I think it's because the 580 already has enough bass and treble. Some may like it though.

I remember one guy (Stefen Audio Art?) claimed the HD-600 uses higher quality wire. Not sure about that..

What's interesting is that you can kind of tune the sound of the HD-600 slightly with different grills etc. Never tried making a closed HD-600..yet. A closed HD-600 should be much more forward sounding I'd imagine.
