That's what I used to say.

Yet somehow, I can lap SIR faster in my 25 year-old 4-cylinder BMW than my friend can on his Suzuki GSX-R750...biggrin.gif

Should I get new HD600s for $316 or refurbished HD650s for $309?  Amazon had this fulfillment by amazon thingy and the company that is selling it is Pinnacle Deals.

Depends on preference.

HD600: neutral

HD650: dark, coloured and fun sound signature

I got no idea what these terms mean for audio.

HD600 = neutral means that it plays the music as the recording intends. If the recording specifies a certain amount of bass, mids, trebl, etc., it plays it exactly as such. This is nice because usually it can sound very natural and lifelike if you have a good recording. Depending on the recording/genre though, it might sound "boring" if the producers expected you to have more bass.

HD650 = dark/colored/fun = it's not neutral. In particular, fun usually means that the bass. The HD650 has boosted bass and a little bit recessed treble. This gives it a "dark" sound, similar to having your head under a blanket IMO. It's a very comfortable sound, and is very enjoyable for a lot of things. But neutral is also very enjoyable for a lot of things too, it depends on preference.

Neutral: Sounds exactly what's meant to sound. Exactly or close as if you're in the recording studio/hall yourself. Excellent for classical.

Coloured: Opposite of neutral. In 650's case, it has more bass. Rock and pop are suited to this sound signature.

Dark: Veiled or muddy (not necessarily a bad thing, just laid back)

*******it this is such a hard choice.  I got a bunch of mp3s that vary in quality cause for most of the mp3s, I don't exactly get them legally but I also download and watch a lot of music videos in youtube and I always download the highest quality video whether its 1080p or 720p.  I like all genres but listen to mostly pop, R&B, rock/metal and hip hop/rap.  What you guys think is the best for me?  Planning on using E9/E17 combo btw.

Probably better off with the HD650. smile.gif

You think it's worth getting a refurbished one for $309?  I'd prefer to get a new one but i need opinions.  Also if anything is wrong with it I can return it and get all my money back?  The item is a fullfillment by amazon or whatever

Yeah! the HD650s seems to be the choice you should go for smily_headphones1.gif, feels that would be the more appealing to your listening style.

Ok how about if all my mp3s are good quality, would the 650s still be for me or would the 600s be better if the songs were all good quality?

It always helps to have better quality source material, but as you seem to be listening to hip/hop, R&B (and the E9/E17 isn't going to warm things up unless you EQ ofcourse) you would be better served by the 650s warm tone.

Actually now that I think about it I would say I listen to pop and rock about 65% of the time and the other 35% are from all other genres

The simplest way to put it might be:

HD600: accurate

HD650: forgiving

People usually like one or the other, so I recommend listening to both of them with your music before making up your mind. If that's not possible the best strategy (if you have the financial flexibility) might be to buy them both from a seller like Amazon proper, and keep the pair that agrees with you. You will pay a little more but that would be the least amount of hassle. Or buy them used, and re-sell one of them at a minimal loss but more hassle.
