If you're ever in NY, I'd love for you to hear my system I think speaker positioning is vital and people don't spend enough time positioning the speakers and leave them in a position that might be good for room setup but not for the best SQ. I wouldn't call those folks audiophiles; just people who bought gear Shaffers comments on the O2 were over the top IMHO and I think the O2 is an exceptional amp that has sounded great with everything I've thrown at it with the exception of the HD600. Like I've been saying, everything is relative. As this is a HD600 thread and you clearly heard the same as me, kinda leads to an end of the story :-) For the money the O2 is outstanding. I think part of the problem is for some folks the ear spoils quickly and if you hear a certain quality of sound the brain remembers it and bases everything you hear subsequently on it I agree. If you get the chance, listen to a Dragonfly. Same price range, very different performance envelope.

Trying to recover......and not very well haha. Just got a set of used Cambridge S30s and a Proficient Audio S8 subwoofer so I can still enjoy my music even if it's feeling too hot for headphones in the summer. I think it's gonna be a while for a full recovery if that's actually a thing that happens haha.

I don't believe that ay drastic changes will happen, my HD600's sounded great out of the box. Although maybe some of us need to be burned in or have to adapt to a new sound signature.

Headphones sometimes do benefit a little from burn-in, but I never really come across a case where it makes or break a headphone, it's more of a subtle change; adjusting to the sound, the system, the source, pad wear, and clamp/fit changes make the most differences. Burn-in is generally a rather subtle change you may not even notice and it doesn't change the character of the sound, it's more of a slight smoothing and cleaning up of the sound. The HD 600 sounds great right out of the box, especially on a system they favor.

I've compared my several year old ones with my friends brand new ones a while back. They sounded identical to us both. The only changes I heard were from upgrading my DAC and amp. Even then the changes were subtle, but positive.

Just got this open box TEAC UD-H01 on clearance for $160. An impulse buy I just couldn't resist. Sounds simply divine with the HD 600 and DT 770. Kenny G never sounded so good...

Kenny G sounded sublime on my HD650, so I can imagine it would also sound sublime with the HD600. Congrats mate, sounds like you've just scored one hell of a deal!
