Alright so I tried out the PreSonus Firebox as my output device and it seems to work well. There is a bit of a hissing noise, but it isn't that loud. I'm not sure if it makes me HD 201s sound better than through my X-Fi Go! Pro, but it sounds at least as good. I think the Firebox sounds a tiny bit cleaner/more airy.

I've read that the amp on this thing is super powerful and that it works fine with high end headphones, so I guess this will be my amp for when I do get better head phones!

Wow, was comparing to the Beyer 880's listening to some jazz and I'm ''delighted'' to hear the HD 600 does this genre sooo well. When the right elements get together! Yeah boyyy! happy_face1.gif

I just picked one of these up for $50!  I can't believe it.  The guy I bought them from said he was happier with his Beats.  I wasn't going to argue with him.

So, as a newbie to HD600's, they are reminiscent of my modded HD595's, though still seem to be held back a bit.  Is my PA2V2 not enough for these, or is it time to start looking at DAC's?  Which would be more beneficial to get first?  Also, any suggested tracks to hear the best these have to offer?

Wait. Where (what state) are you located?

Congrats! The HD600 / HD650 scale up wonderfully to high end sources. They are keepers.

Not sure if this is because my pair of hd600 is the older kind, but I've found them to sound boring/thin out of some setups.  I've recently settled on a pairing with the Headamp GS-X and to hear the HD600 via balanced will really put a smile on my face.  Keep in mind, the HD600 are probably the cheapest of my headphones as well...

Wow. You are pretty damn lucky.

There are moments when they shine for me... but it doesn't do it enough. It's still bland/boring for me too. It's been 3 months and I've mentally burned them in enough to know what to expect out of them and 9 times out of 10, I reach for the dt880s. The 1 time is usually because I feel bad about not using them. I'll probably post them on the FS thread shortly.

No way, that's easily the best deal I've ever seen anyone get on audio equipment.  How did you come across this deal, Craigslist?

I see you have LCD 2s as well! Is there an amp/dac that you would recommend that sounds great with both the LCD2s and HD600s? I want to eventually upgrade to LCD2s in a bit but want an amp that would make my HD600s shine atm as well.

Violectric V800/V200.  Yep.. I own it.. and love it.. and have heard both the LCD-2 & HD600 (and HD800) on it.. sounds terrific with all of them... oodles of current to cleanly drive the LCD-2.. and plenty of voltage swing for the Senns.

Craigslist it was.  It was just posted as "Sennheiser headphones", so I asked what model.  When he said "HD600" I got kinda twitchy with excitement.  Indeed it worked out and I'm listening to them now!

Nice, I went on the local Craigslist and all that showed up we're q701s for $250 and k270s for $220. Both total rip offs lol.

I bet that combo does sound amazing... there's a used combo going for $2,000 in the sales forum right now but I don't have that type of money :-( preferably under $500 for both and even that's stretching it at the moment.

I highly recommend looking at the Lake People line of amps (the G103, G109, etc.).  They make the Violectric amps too.. but the LP line is a little more wallet-friendly and offers nearly the same performance as their Vio stuff.  They're definitely within your price point.  I had the G109 before the V200.. and it was/is a terrific amp.  I'd have no problem falling back to it if my Vio stack was, god forbid, whisked away.  The G109 delivers about 85% the V200's performance, IMO.  In fact, I can't think of a better (neutral) solid state amp under $500 to drive both the LCD-2 & HD600 than the G109.  It even has two headphone outputs.. so you could leave them plugged it (the power output does not get split between the two outputs,, btw).  Get a high value DAC of your choice (I recommend the ODAC) and you're practically set.

That's the deal of the century. I imagine the previos owner must have regretted the sale by now, if he know how to use Google.

Made me want to search craiglist for "sennheiser headphone" now.
