Sennheiser HD 600 Appreciation Thread - Page 3

I am looking to buy another pair of HD600s soon. I have owned them twice in the past and loved them. They seemed the most speaker like headphone I had heard. They were very neutral as well.

Just ordered a FiiO E7 for my HP notebook and currently own AT ESW9 (which I love).

Where are you all buying your 600s from? No one I have seen has them under $399.

What a coincidence - I have both the HD 600 and MS-1i.  I was considering the E7 to power the HD 600 on the go, but ended up going with the uDAC since it has a better DAC section.  I find the uDAC to have plenty of clean power for the HD 600 (I've spent hours comparing with the Beyerdynamic A1 at the local hi-fi shop and they're entirely indistinguishable with the HD 600), so if you need a portable amp the E7 should be great as well.  If you're just running off of your computer, the new uDAC 2 is supposed to be even better.

The MS-1i goes very well with the uDAC, although my laptop's headphone jack is very, very underpowered.  The Sansa Clip+ powers the MS-1i very well, and it even is enough for the HD 600 at lower levels.  The signal is very clean and well balanced.

If you just need power for a DAP, the E11 portable amp is coming out in March and will have even more power than the E7 at a lower price (but no DAC).

I bought mine used, which is certainly a way to save some money - but if you do, make sure they pads aren't worn out.  They're $40 to buy replacements.

Oh, and add me to the list of people that find the HD 600 to be the best balanced headphones I've ever heard.  Just the right amount of well controlled bass, awesome mids, and detailed but never piercing or harsh treble.  They're revealing yet still polite, and smooth yet never boring.

Even the HD 800 and T1 that I've auditioned don't do that (their highs need taming, and I'm not sure if the Beyerdynamic A1 is the best amp to pair either with), and the DT 880 and AKG K701 fall short in balance as well.

 Bottlhead crack sounds pretty awesome with mine.

The HD 600 is definitely the next headphone that I will be buying to complement my LAs

My friend's HD600 sounded great from my KICAS Caliente. It is a SS amp but the Caliente version adds a tube-like color to the sound.

And the regular KICAS?

There are like 100s of amps that work great with the Sennheisers. Everyone will most likely recommend the one he has.

A lot of amps were developed with the 600/650 as gear, as a lot of product sites show. First make a choice if you want tubes or not, and what budget you are willing to spend

Then start reading the boards (and get waaay too much info ;) )

I bought mine used for $210. You can buy a new one for $249+shipping. It's a great amp that used to sell for $399 and people still thought it was a great buy. The amp comes with 2 jumpers where you can switch between the regular and Caliente. I would recommend the Caliente version if you're using it with the HD600.

i thought of a tube amp in the pricerange between 200-250$
