To be honest the HD580/600 doesn't feel very laid back to me. Switching back between the very forward MS2i and HD580 I don't see a stark contrast. Maybe I'm just bad at picking up these kinds of things.

I'd go with q cables or DHC before moon audio

Well, i use q cables with my hd800 and will be getting some for my lcd3, its mainly for the ergonomics; i think they are unbeatable in those regards. They also sound very neutral and balanced to me, dont add much coloration but do open up the sound.

As for dhc, I have a copper cable for my hd800's, it sounds a bit richer, and they have very cool cable braid designs. If you're going to be using DHC with the Hd6xx's though, i would maybe consider silver instead

Hm, I almost impulse bought some sr80i last night....do you think I'd like them if I enjoy the HD600? I read that they're best for rock/metal, but I don't really listen to either of those genres.

I personally haven't liked any grados I've tried. They're just too trebley for me, and combined with the poor comfort, it makes for very fatiguing listening. Quite the opposite of the hd600's.

I would buy some koss ksc-75's first. They have sort of the same strong points (rock/metal), but less of the treble spike the Grados have, and more bass. They also are inexpensive. I really enjoyed mine when I had them. They compliment the hd600's very well.

IMO the grado sound is like a total opposite of Sennheiser. Yeah, despite the graphs...

You can still like both though.

 

The 598 or HD-580 is closer to the Grado sound. Even then..not very close.

I wasn't really saying they're a total opposite just due to treble alone. I already knew that and agree with this.

When you actually put them on and ignore graphs they definitely sound like total opposites in every area of their frequency (IMO).

 

This reminds me of old DT-880 and HD-600 graphs that were so similar. There were some old ones that were almost identical (probably gone now).

Those two couldn't sound any more different.

 

I wonder which Grado has the least amount of treble. I've heard it was probably the HF2...
