Does anyone know where to get a replacement head pad from the HD600s/HD650s? I want to get one for my HE-400...

Does anyone here also have a Lyr that they use with their HD600? I'm using my Bifrost+Lyr and while it's pretty good, for some reason it doesn't always wow me. I like the signature of the HD600s but it almost feels half-assed. I imagine the HD650s would satisfy my liquid smooth mids needs better than the HD600s, which still have great mids. I just don't feel like it's as incredible as it could be with this amp. Or maybe that's just the HD600s, laid back and a bit understated. Decent details, but not as airy as the HE-400s or the DT880s.

I would still definitely recommend the HD600 + Lyr combo, but it almost makes me think with this amp, I should really have HD650s, something that might shine a little more with the power the Lyr offers. It made my HE-400s absolutely amazing compared to driving them with the E17 (which sounded not bad at all with my DT880s). If I've had a beer or two, I start to enjoy the HD600 more, but I'm not quite sure whether it's the beer or the warmup time for the Lyr. Some people say the Lyr takes an hour of warmup to sound its best.

Anyone have a Lyr and wanna share their experience with the HD600s?

Well, this thread sure died.

I've been waiting for my replacement HE-400s for about 2 weeks now, and for a while felt like I'd have to "deal with" my HD600s. I've read plenty of praise for them, no doubt, but part of me wishes I had just bought the HD650s. The HD600s really are great, don't get me wrong. I love them for female vocals, which were kind of lacking on the DT880s and HE-400s. But I find myself sometimes thinking "man, if these were my only headphones, I'd be kind of disappointed." Like I said, female vocals (Nadia Ali

) are great with these, but some electronic music is a bit lacking, and rap/hip-hop leaves a bit to be desired. I like their laid-back signature for sure. Instrumental sounds great too. String instruments, like the cello are just great. You can feel the vibration and resonance of the sound. It's a great reproduction.

I really want to be an HD600 lover, but I feel like once I get my HE-400s the only time I'll wear them is when I want a warmer sound. The HE-400s are just so much more engaging and the bass is phenomenal. I have a feeling I'll end up selling the HD600s and getting some HD650s...

Or you get a second HE-400 after selling the HD600.

lol... no reason to have 2 pairs of the same headphone unless they're 5 years apart, in my opinion. I really need to audition some HD650s... maybe the Minnesota Head-Fi meet will come to fruition and I can bring my Bifrost/Lyr and really see what they're made of. I imagine it must be hard to properly judge open-back headphones with multiple people standing around talking, though... I wonder if someone locally would be willing to trade for a week. Guess I'll have to see. But the HE-400s sound amazing for the day or two that I had the Lyr before I shipped them  back to Head-Direct for replacement. Tomorrow/Wednesday is going to be lovely.

I have an 11+ year old HD580 in my possession. The headband pads have completely flattened and the inside foam cups are half gone.

I'm really liking it with the headband pad, much more comfortable than a newer HD600 I had a few years back. They have been really taken care of  and the plastic and metal parts don't show much wear for being over 11 years old. I expect them to last many more years.

That's quite a long time. I'm glad you've enjoyed them for so long, but I would have definitely bought new ones by now.

Yeah, it'd be cool if somebody traded me their HE-400 for my modded 580s. I fear selling them will leave me far too short handed to buy the HE-400.

Still working fine with no driver issues. Pads can be easily replaced but I find them more comfortable without them. Of course, the earpads and cable have been changed though.

I dont think the 650 would give you anything more of what you are looking for.  they are not better then the 600, they are just different.  The bass and treble are better on the 600 in my experience.  I had the 650, and I traded for a 600.  no ounce of regret.

You should sell both cans and get the HE-500.  IMHO.
