Headphone cable problem?

Thread Starter

I use sennheiser 600 HD's with the standard out of the box cable.

I have some static that seems to come randomly and speak over music.

This static occurs most reliably when I wiggle the cord near it's right connection,

or 24/7 as I raise and lower volume levels.

Is my problem as simple as a short in the cable? Will a replacement cable solve my woes?

What are your devices for listen to music?  if the computer, could not be static but rather problems with the hard disk or something related, maybe your computer  is on PIO mode imstead of DMA mode and when it happens the music on almost every player sounds like ramdom static. here are a link how to solve that..http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/407529/sound-card-stuttering-noise-skipping-solved, But if not it may be that the cable is broken from the inside creating false contacts or friction.
