Depends what you mean by high-end. If you mean Orpheus / Omega 2, then it may not be there yet (really close to O2 though, IMO, and in some ways better I'd say). However, IMO, the fixed ED10 is a league above the latest flagships from other factories, including PS1000, HD800, T1 and LCD2. I had about 2-5 hour listening sessions with each of the first three and very recently comes to own the LCD2. Of course, the ED10 does cost more. And it shines only with good source / amping. My source gear (Esoteric D07) and tube amp, and the tubes together cost around US$7K.

In the past the Ultrasone line seemed to do better with SS but there seems to be a sway to tubes for the Ed. 10, good tubes that is. Interesting as it would seem there is a true change in sound character compared to past Ultrasone phones of their top tier.

I have to say I really want to try the Edition 10, but I'm not going to spend that much money without an audition first. If I'm going to go in blind, I'd rather get a TakeT H2 or Ergo AMT. At least those would be interesting and unique, and probably sound better than the Ed 10!

his experiences actually mirror mine 99%, the only difference being I came away from the listening session still being able to distinguish sheep from goats

AMEN! The few people who actually seem to like them will have to admit they like them BECAUSE of the colorations. These are horribly colored headphones, as many of us, including me, have been saying.

Tyll's best video yet. I think hollywood will come knocking after that acting job!

 

After reading the full review and seeing the measurements I find it very hard to put much stock into the opinions of those who have defended these headphones.

A great review from Tyll that for sure.  After I auditioned the ED. 9 a few years back, I knew right away that their "S-Logic" sound is just not my cup of tea.  Maybe Ultrasone should move away from their house sound and give music listener a more neutral approach.

Wow, the Ed. 10 sure can stir it up. Well Ultrasone has gotten some attention but I am not sure it is what they were expecting. Some good and a lot bad but to be honest I have emailed with a couple of people that love the phone but they don't feel like posting here and going through the dialog back and forth. Very interesting.
