One of the reasons I have been quiet is because some people have said the ED10 required at least 500 hours of burn-in to start singing. I received a demo pair with the new pads last Friday. Out of the box they clearly sounded better that the original pair I bought and sold (they had the wrong pads). Right now this demo pair has 120+ hours of burn-in. During the 20th to the 80th hour more or less they sounded horrible but now they are settling in and are a little bit better than just out of the box.

 

Do I think they are going to be at the top of the high end current production headphones? I think it is too early to tell but they really have to improve to beat my recabled HD800 and my recabled T1 with my WA5-LE or specially my HE-6/Pass Aleph 3 combo.

 

Time will tell I and will report my opinion.

Actually only one of them is his and it was on loan along with the stand at my place when I did the R10 vs. R10 comparo (bass-light vs. bass-heavy).  The stand his Dad makes is just an awesome match for the R10s design, as the photo proves.

Yeah, I love those stands, I have a few!

 

Makes sense on the R10's, did you post the comparo here on Head-Fi? I would like to read it.  Perhaps we should move this to PM, I don't want to derail the thread any further.

The talk about the R10's, while much has been posted on the bass-light vs bass-heavier, wouldn't hurt here on the thread as a possible comparison to the Ed. 10 may come up and it helps to give background within the sound context of what is being heard and compared.

Yes, the link is in my signature block "R10 vs. R10" below.

 

I haven't done a detailed comparison--like Skylab, I will wait until Craig replaces the earpads on my pair--but offhand, I would say that the bass-heavy version of the R10 is closer to the overall Ed10 SQ than the bass-light on most systems.

Wow, slow to happen. I guess not too many Ed. 10's out there yet to compare or people are now holding back on the purchase. Or, they are so happy they don't care to post.

I still don't have my new pair with the fixed pads...which means they are not shipping good ones in the US...

"If" this is the fix I would have thought they would be anxious and Wise to get them out to the main market impacted by this. But then anxious to dispel the negative opinions and Wise from a company that failed blantantly on QC and response to customer concerns on a 2700 dollar headphone may be an oxymoron.

You see that ticks me off also. Ultrasone, I assume it is Ultrasone, gives you a deal to make up for your loss, which they should, IMO, but then they don't push to get a pair to Moon Audio. They could have overnighted them and you would have had them for a few weeks or longer by now. So what is the hold up, where is the train wreck blocking the tracks that keeps them from acting? Seems they need a mental laxative.
