Cowon D3 Plenue. Review. With Photos. - Page 25

ok,... i do strongly not recomend using anything with apple stuff.... because, apple just destroys everything from cowon... or at least that was the situation with j3, d2 and s9....

Mmh...

Can you explain a little bit more?

Thanks a lot,

ok... so... apple, and mac, i do not have the least ideea why, creates an folder with name Trash.... this is the name of the folder, it is a hidden folder.... when a cowon player, gets this folder, into it;s system, it just bricks... and you have to use tcctool, to recover it... after the recovering, there will be no problems... but the ideea was, that apple, and mac, practically destroys most of non apple tehnology.... especially whn it comes to cowon, which is known, for being bricked by mac...

you can go to iaudiophile for more details... it seems that this is the way that mac and apple acts, with cowon....

this is what was happening with j3, s9, and d2... i do not have any ideea if it will happen with d3 too.... i mean, it is android, it could be protected.... anyway, you can recover it, even if mac and apple brick it....

but that was just a little detail, you may want to know.... apart from that, from what i understood, you will not have any problems......

This is happening because the Mac file system needs to create a lot of hidden files to function. These hidden files all start with a period ( '.' ) - the same way Windows computers create a thumbs.db file for instance. When you connect any kind of external media to a Mac it ends up contaminating it with all these hidden files. These weird system files are foreign to the players, which find these files and folders starting with mysterious periods and trip up. I had this happen on my Sony player and some others.

Unfortunately I don't really know of a free way to fix it. I got a program called Blueharvest which prevents my Mac computers from making these files on non-Mac discs, and I use a program called Salling Media Sync to perform iTunes syncing to non- Apple music players. Both these programs are great but cost a little dough.

So,

basically, the solution would be a shell script, or python script, or whatever, cleaning the Cowon drive after access by the Mac...

That should not be terribly complex.

I'll try to write down something.

To be honest, and without wanting to begin a war here, Mac is a better and more tolerant system, accepting simply and showing the thumbs.db, while others just brick down on a folder named ".Trashes"... Forget this.

Why doesn't it piss people off any way.

gregvds, to be true with you, mac is the only system that bircks the cowon... so i do not want wither to start a war in here, but, ya know, i would really prefer, to continue using windows 7...

So im a little confuzlsed, I heard about the Cowon J3 and did a little research and now I'm a little hesistant since I saw the D3 and fell in love with it. Sonce you guys know a lot more about this than I do I would be greatful for any help on which to chose. I don't know which to get, it seems as if the J3 is better for music but i do love Android and the fact the screen size is bigger, any suggestions?

Thread Starter

The J3 lasts far longer on a charge.

The J3 does gapless natively. D3 doesn't yet.

They both play the same media.  Video and photos look better and larger on the D3.

The D3 is android 2.3, and hopefully a good example of it when the final (non-beta) firmware comes out.  You get apps and email and a browser, and when they work the D3 becomes a much more entertaining device. They don't all work yet though. Wait until this next firmware comes out, and see how we feel about it before investing in the D3.  You will find better android experiencesthe latest batch of phones.  Maybe get the J3 for music, and update your phone to an Android phone.

You still have high hopes?

Their last firmware update was almost 2 month ago.

Poweramp?

The new crackle app?

Inquiring minds must know!
