Cowon D3 Plenue. Review. With Photos. - Page 8

I am extremely happy with my J3.  All of my favorite music is loaded in FLAC format.  Connected to the 13-speaker Logic 7 stereo system in my BMW, it is amazing.  The hiss is extremely low and the sound rivals that of my home audio system.  Unlike many others, I really like the J3 UI.  I appreciate the honest evaluation.  I will stick with the J3 for now.

What I admire Apple for is that they are capable of making great leaps from one generation to the other, without stumbling.

Almost every release is flawless.

What are they trying to achieve with their "Evolution" method?

"Revolution" is better in many ways.....todays Apple-consumer buys every new product they bring out, even if they already have the previous model (leave out the prestige-reasons).

But every product is considerably better than it's predecessor, but i suppose that is only possible when u already have the expertise....experts....money.

Apple isn't perfect.  Look at their Nano and Shuffles.  The Shuffle went from a decent clickwheel clip-on to a gumstick with only voice control.  That didn't sell so they went back. The Nano went from a versatile clickwheel multi-media player with camera and an innovative eliptical body/glass to a clip-on multitouch tiny touchscreen that doesn't do half what the previous generation did.

Apple suffers from being "too far" ahead of consumer expectations at times. That gumstick shuffle was an example.  They'll also push specs (like thinness) just for a technical exercise, even when the new form moves away from being ergonomically appropriate (iPod Touch and new iPad).

Not really, especially the 2G to 3G. They basically took away the 16 GB version and added a microphone to the larger versions. The 8 GB 2G and 8 GB 3G Touch are identical.

oh....i didn't know that.

Spec-wise they are completely identical?

Nobody is perfect....Apple compensates these faults with their popularity.

But compared to the other companies, they are still quiet good.

IMO, a meaningful rival could be Samsung, who are already on their way.

So Cowon uses evoution rather than revolution, just to be on the safe side?

You don't get it... cowon means pure audiophile.... they will improve as much as they can, but they will sure keep the audio quality and improove it.... the main reason for that they are not evoluting so fast, is that they are conentrated only on audio and sound quality.... which is kind of hard to upgrade without adding cost to it....the main ideea is that ipod and iphone has far less kdifferences beteen 2G 3G and 4G....

the 4G has that super sayed retina display,... do you know that this is just an display, far too overpriced and overestimated, right?.... that resolution is usless on such a small screen.... it has no semnification at all....

the pixel density doesn;t mean better image quality... LED and AMOLED beat that thing anyway, because the colors are better.... it is just more lickley to the eye, you know?....

don't overestimate apple, they just push to hard the price and let the main thing slip.... ipod were originally mp3 players... they doesn;t improoved theyr audio quality that so far!....

Samsung may have the best android PMP, their YP-GB1 I think.  I can't buy one in the U.S. yet.  ExportPrive has them but they are outrageously priced. Somehow Samsung gets away with putting the android market app on them even though everyone else fears the rath of Google if they do. I don't expect Audio quality on the GB1 to be as good as it is on Cowons D3.  I expect them to have a complete(android?)  hardware spec.  Cowon obviously didn't think camera(s) and GPS were needed, but in every showdown between competing devices they will be losing points there.  Looking forward to the D4.

Yeah, completely. But I don't really blame Cowon, they're just in this for the media quality. Evolution is a lot safer, and because of that it kind of bugs me that they would release the D3 in the condition that it's in...

The Retina looks really great. I used my friend's 4G and the screen looked equally as clear as my J3's display. A HUGE improvement from the last Touch, that drove me crazy. I haven't gotten a chance to compare them side-by-side, but didn't 4D say the the Retina showed small text better?

I've looked at the gen4 Touch, Archos 43, and Cowon D3 side by side. Tiny text is most legible on the Touch. Color/Contrast is better on the D3.  I prefer videos on the D3.  I would prefer the Touch for web, but the on-screen controls obscure part of the screen. As it is the D3 and 43 are essentially tied using the same android browser. The 43's screen is a little bigger, which helps when I've lost track of my reading glasses.

I didn't know that you had a 43, I've been interested in it for a while! Based on apps/Wi-Fi and nothing else, would you prefer the Touch or 43? Also how's the screen?

Have you tried the Perfect Browser app for the Touch? It's faster than Safari and has fullscreen; when I had mine I loved it.

I can take any device from my collection with me to work.  Lately I've been taking my 43.  Bigger screen, expandible memory, and kickstand have proven to be great assets.

No I haven't used any third party browsers on my 4th gen Touch.

so, retina makes a difference from last touch, but as contrast for videos, is not tha same as cowon's J3 or D3 AMOLED.... or any amoled device....

i read that "apple was going to try puttin amoled into touch 4g, but samsung(the only company in the world who produces amoled and super amoled) sayed that there is no way of processing such a huge number of screens as apple demanded... so apple, just get frustrated, so they put a huge density of pixels onto a lcd, and call it retina"...

i expect it to be great for texts, but it will never add the contrast of amoled or super amoled to videos.... and this is my opinion, but, human eye cannot really recognize 800X480 neither.... i mean i really tryed but i never were able to see pixels.... to add - in my j3 pixels are very hard to see....

and, "audiophiles" do like equalizing theyr music, if it comes to bbe and cowon... in general i hate equalizing....so this like everything in life is variable, if someone likes or not equalizing....

and audiphile is a way of life and a thing of taste, not a comunist thing that everyone must be the same.... audiophile means people that love their music, people that pay a lot to listen to music at the higher quality, people that do just cannot live without music.... audiophile is something that makes you feel happy when you are listening to music(or sad if you are emo)... audiophile means to love music, and make it an important part of your life....

I have a theory about audiophile which is just that, a theory. It is based on our senses coming in varying degrees of sensitivity.  Not hard to grasp, as for vision any eye doctor knows some patients see 20-15 and can read with accuracy small text that a 20-20 person can't.  There also is research pointing out we humans come with varyious density of taste buds, which is why some people need hot spicy food to enjoy it (low density) and some become professional taste testers (high density).  The rest of us sit somewhere in the middle.

So my audiophile theory goes like this:  Some people hear better than most. They simply have a better capability to detect and process sounds than most of us. Add that there are also better listeners.  This may come with age (just getting older), experience (listening to ALOT of music), or training, or all.  Age also works against us. The high end of what we can hear diminishes when we get older. Google "mosquito ringtone".

When someone claims they hear things we can't hear, we dismiss their delusion as impossible simply because we "know" everyone hears the same. If we allow that there is a range of capability among listeners, then we have to allow that a few are more capable than most. Google "bell curve":

Just a theory.

Nice theory, I pretty much think the same thing. Another thing I would add to that would be the psychological effect, which seems to affect sound perception more than other things.
