You shouldn't rely on your media player to gauge the health of your library, as it only reads the music tags. Just because everything appears organized in there doesn't mean your files are in order. So it sounds like there is a WMP version of your library with the correct 30,000 song library, and then an iTunes version with ~26,000, and you said another extra folder somewhere with 10,000 inside? What folder is WMP scanning your library from? If it's a separate folder from the iTunes one and the 10k folder, and it has your complete library inside, just delete/remove the other ones (with caution) and then all your music should be located in one place.

Well I'd kind of given up but I will try what you suggest, was googling some stuff and seeing pretty much what you said about MSC & MTP.... which one does it need to be on though? I'm installing media Monkey and I'll see what happens too.

The thing is, I've been pretty slack I guess regarding managing my music, I've always used WMP and have always transferred stuff that way, always managed to synch stuff and never had any issues... but then I've never tried transferring so much in one go, usually just 16GB or 32GB and never had any issues.

I have just one folder for "My music" it's in my C drive.  Within this folder however is that other music folder with the 30Gb of music... but I've looked all through it and it's just odd songs from albums and a few whole albums.

What I think I did was put this in there when I changed devices before so I could have all my music that I had on that device and copy straight onto the other one... I probably shouldn't have stored it in my music though... bad move.

I have no idea where WMP is scanning the library from, I'm guessing just the "My Music" folder in the c drive... but as I said, everything I want and need is in my WMP... I've looked through it extensively, and it appears to be complete.

It contains 30,000 (roughly) and when I go to "My Music" in my c drive, and right click, properties... it says 42,000 files.

BUT... as I said, I have deleted a lot of stuff from my WMP which I didn't want but when you delete stuff it gives you the option to "remove from library only" or "Remove from library and my computer" and I think I used to have it set to just remove from my library which would be why I have less tracks in there than in my C drive.

Oh man... I have no clue.

I'm really annoyed too LOL

I'll try media monkey, transferring my music as we speak... I'll see what number of files that says I have.

Also Because I've only been renaming files/albums/artists in WMP, I now have a HUGE amount of "Unknown artist" tracks... can see them all transferring to Media Monkey....   Damn.

OK so now I've transferred all to MM and I have 31,791 files and 162GB of music.

I have quite a few multiples and will have to go through this and delete some and try and transfer what I want.

Thanks so much for the help

Ah I see. WMP is probably just scanning the entire "My Music" folder as you said. I think that's the default. So just need to get rid of any extra files that aren't supposed to be in there I suppose. It sucks how a lot of media players don't actually write the track info to the files, so if you try using another player or get a new device or something, you get all of those unknowns. Years ago when I was only using iTunes and then switched to something else I also found that a lot of my music was in disarray. They really should design these things better.

Between MSC and MTP, I think one is supposed to be for some kind of syncing capabilities, and the other is supposed to be for use as an external hard drive and drag n drop. I don't remember which is which though. Try Googling "cowon x7 manual," or just do trial and error to see which one works.

Hope it all works out. Sometimes having a huge library is such a pain!

Amen to that man, seriously... they should make these things easier or give you the option of copying track names from one  music program to another

And yes... it really is a pain in the ass having so much music, it's been a blessing for so long, now It's just pissing me off LOL

Thanks very much for the help anyway my friend, much appreciated :)

Don't mention it.

Try using Media Monkey or J.River Media Jukebox for syncing. WMP always gives problems,...I'd rather use iTunes on any day compared to it!!!

doctorjazz - I've been looking for an iPod 5.5 and came across the same seller on eBay. Did you end up getting an"ecoipod"? If so, do you like it - any problems?
