Dali Ikon 2 + Yamaha A-S300 for small room, nearfield stereo setup... too good to pass up? - Page 2

I'd go with the bookshelves, floorstanders tend to be hard to work with in confined spaces and 12x9 is small as it is, and I'm sure you'll have some sort of furniture as well. Not quite the setting for floorstanders IMO.

Wading through Audiogon for some potential bargains. Not sure if it's worth it, as cost of shipping to Australia may offset any savings. Most listings don't seem to offer international shipping anyway, plus I hold concerns about receiving speakers shipped from overseas from a private seller.

If there's a listing that's too good to pass up, I may consider it despite my concerns. Can you guys recommend what I should look for, with a budget of less than $500 minus shipping?

I'd buy locally.  If at all possible, audition the speakers you're interested in your own home.  Unlike headphones, a speaker's sound quality is dependent on placement (and thus my advice of auditioning them in your home).  You should think of your listening area as a "component" as well.
