i am the proud owner of a burson 160 headphone amp.i have read about the woo headphone amps but have not heard one.i do own a ray samuels raptor amp and have akg k701 and grado rs-1i headphones.i have found that the raptor works really well with the grado rs1i phones but did not drive the akg 701 phones nearly as well.i had to turn up the volume with the raptor a bit.with the burson it seemed to be a match made in heaven.the burson seems to be the ideal amp to drive the akg 701.the akgs in my setup at least seem to be much more neutral than the grado rs1is when used with the burson audio 160 amp.the grados did work fairly well with the raptor.there was a lot of space to the sound with the grados with a soundstage that seems to expand outside of the head to the front and side as with some height as well.i must add i am using a kubala sosna emotion power cable with the raptor.i also replaced the stock fuse in the raptor with a hif-tuning fuse.the burson on the other hand is completely stock.i tried the burson with the kubala emotion power cord as well but in my setup the burson worked better with the stock cord.i have not replaced the fuse in the burson.i may yet try that tweek but it seems to sound great with the stock fuse.i have read some reviews of the burson and i concur with the evaluations of the burson.i am presently using my burson with the akg 701 phones as my primary setup and find them to be a superior combination.in my opinion from what i have read about the woos there sonic signature is in part the effect of the tubes that are in use with the unit.i believe in my opinion that the burson ia a much more neutral alternative to the woo audio amps in their sound characteristic. i believe that the burson is more accurate in producing the sound of the original recording and would be a more revealing and much more accurate amplifier and less colored amp than the woo.i must add that the burson has made me more aware of the pacing of music.the burson has profoundly changed my standards for listening.it is in my experience very revealing of the recording venue in which the recording was made.the burson reveals more detail,is faster and much more true to the sound on most recordings given the quality of the recording.also i believe the burson is substantially less expensive tham the woo.the burson can be had for $699.99 and the woo is over a $1000.00 and that is in stock form.with upgrades depending how far you go increases the price substantially to approximately $2000.00!!!. that makes it a very poor value in comparison with the burson 160.also with the burson you do not have to deal with tube replacement and tube rolling making it much more of a set and forget product.i also believe the in mho the burson 160 is a better amp and would serve you much better in that it is a much more honest and revealing amp than the woo.i hope this will guide you to a better listenig experiece.
