headphone addicts typology - Page 3

Started with A... ended up somehow close to a C with my AKG K340.

A strong D for the rest of my gear though. Anything the K340 don't do right is to blame on the amp and source... isn't it ? biggrin.gif

Witnessing the embarrassing quantity of gear, they might ask something like, "Why so many?"

It becomes clear to the addict that the chasm of understanding is quite large -- the avid collector vs. the befuddled visitor.

The visitor, now stupefied at seeing a dozen headphones all hung neatly from machined aluminum stands, picks up a headphone...

The addict bites back the urge to shout "Careful with that headphone!  It cost $1500!"

Better not, he reconsiders, He already thinks I'm crazy.

The visitor casually chucks the headphone back onto its stand, and just as he is leaving the room, unleashes a tried-and-true wisecrack:  "Sheesh!  You only have one set of ears!"

The addict, not amused, thinks to himself, If I had a nickel for every time I heard that one, I'd be able to buy.....

Funny you are a historian. I am studying history right now at the RUG. :-)

That's great! What do you do for a living then if you don't mind me asking? It's always interesting to see where historians end up. ;-) I myself have no idea yet. I am trying to specialize in international relations, conflict studies and humanitarian action.

I work in academia, specializing in Asian history.

I have a friend who has  a history degree.  His official job title is Archivist, but what he does all day is scan documents into a digital document management system.  Here in the US, there are few job prospects that take advantage of their degrees for history majors unfortunately.  Most history majors end up going to grad school in another field such as foreign relations, law, etc.  I considered majoring in history but decided against it for that very reason.

It is true unfortunately. I am thinking of following law but with our current government it would cost me way too much... It is such a shame, but I am trying to make the best out of it. I want to finish what I started (history) but it's tough to see your options narrowed down now... :-(

It's not that bad, really! I don't have a history degree, but specialized in Asian Studies and kind of found myself becoming a historian. Friends of mine who did study history, turned out quite alright. One of them is a hotel manager (who likes to read historical books...) and another is an editor with a magazine.

Yep, that's basically what I said and still think: historians end up everywhere. ;-)

The thing is, our faculty is not a factory like the faculty of economics for example. Such a study is like kick-start into the world of economics and with history, and all the other literature studies for that matter, it's what you make of it. Anyway, like I said I am focusing on conflict studies and humanitarian action as that is where my interests are. I would love to work for a corporation aimed at those topics internationally.

Hehe, we are rambling. Back to headphones. :-)

I've been a strong B since I began, but the number of "epic" headphones I have not owned at some point or another is dwindling.  I've certainly found the one I like the best so far, which I suppose pushes me slightly into the C category.  However I am always open to hear more, will always be on the lookout for new breakthrough cans or old long-lost secrets - I'll never lose that type B spirit :)

Anyone that can buy and then sell an HE90 is definitely a Type B biggrin.gif

Me too. My signature line for the first six months or so eerily said, "so many headphones, so little listening time" rolleyes.gif

B it is for me for sure.

I'm a type E.

I adore my HD800's

I would love a Senn Orpheus that I've heard twice.

I have a selection of other phones which I enjoy in varying degrees.

The HD800 are still my favourites.

I plan to get more headphones which I will probably enjoy, but not as much as the HD800 or an Orpheus.

I think my Grado GS1000 sounds like cardboard, but my PS1000 are great.

I see a LCD-2 and/or a Stax 02 in my future.
