AKG K514 - Cracks in the fake leather

Heya all

This is a picture of my K514s, I've had them for over a year and I didn't expect the cushion to wear off so fast (but I do use them quite intensively, and it's been really cold this winter - that probably did not help).

K514

Any ideas on how to "repair" this / keep it from spreading? I'm not sure they do replacements for these, does anyone know?

Cheers

I've got an answer from the spare parts retailer and they charge 33€, including taxes & delivery, for the pair of cushions. I'm wondering if this is worth it, considering the headphones are 60€ new. That's kind of lame.

Is there any material I could spread on this? Or can i just get some piece of thin leather and glue it over the crack somehow?

You could possibly put leather softener on the leather to stop it from spreading... I'm not sure about repairing it though..

I've got one pair too and i can't get a container for it from the sellers...

Why not try sewing it together or sewing over it? Should keep it from spreading. Obviously comfort will change. For the better? Who knows.

Isn't that fake leather, i.e. plastic? They call it "leatherette" anyways, which is artificial according to our pal Wikipedia, but that's all I know.

You may want to wipe the pads after every use (if you don't do this already), so your skin oil doesn't accumulate on them and degenerate the material further. I use a moistened tissue, but I'm sure there are better methods.
