i'm torn.. should i buy a new CDP or buy a macbook pro and do computer audio? right now the only DAC i have is in my Burson HA-160D but if i went the computer audio route i'd eventually get a more esoteric DAC. thoughts opinions? if i get a CDP i was thinking of the Cambridge Audio 840c.

I think you should go with computer audio, or perhaps get something like a Onkyo ND-S1.
You need to get one heck of a CDP to even compete with Computer audio, but even then computer/transport audio is much more convienient.
But, to be honest, Dell Mini + M2Tech HiFace for sure. Spend your savings on maybe towards a better dac or amp. I'm sure you'd save a lot of money going for a Dell Mini instead of a Macbook Pro.
I say Dell Mini because it uses passive cooling, and if you have open headphones no sound will leak in, I did a lot of research on the quietest netbooks and Dell are always the winner.
I hope I helped you decide!

If you have a serious disc collection, AND you do not want to be bothered to rip it all, go for the CD player
Otherwise, computer audio is indeed far more convenient
