AKG K701/K702 vs. AKG Q701? - Page 3

Most likely they put more money into the marketing department than into developing new and better products. Probably typical business practice these days....and a lot easier...but this one seems really lame on AKG's part.

It's not that old, and who said new is better?  I do agree that the Q line is just a reason to get more money out of people with limited effort.  AKG needs to spending the resources to produce something totally new rather then using the resources to rebrand headphones (in icky colors).  [Something totally new, but something that is better than their usual new stuff].

"...rather than using the resources to rebrand headphones (in icky colors)"

So You are saying the White Q701 Doesn't Look Better than the K701, right?

The same for the Black Q701, does it not look better than  the K702?

However, I will agree that the Green Q701 is somewhat pointless from an

Audiophile's point of view, which is focused mostly on sound.

Yet if people wish to have some Individualism with their headphone,

so be it. Anyway it's just a color.

I actually like the green. Just because it is different. But like you said...the focus is on sound, not looks. I would not spend more on a set of headphones just for a special or new color.

I'd have to say the K701 looks a lot better than the white Q701.

The K701 looks like modest headphone. Classy, shiny, but modest. It stands out, but not on purpose. You ask, " How come your wearing such a nice white coat, shiny silver rings, and that smooth leather hat?"

To which he replies, "I'm just doing my job. It was the only thing I had."

My little personification of the K701.

Good point. I respect you opinion but I have never seen someone wearing a white coat, silver rings, and a leather hat altogether.

But a white suit coupled with a black shirt and tie doesn't look bad either.

Who here would agree that the White and Black Q701 looks the best of the Quincy Jones range and the green

the worst?

But that's not the same thing (it could work for attire, if you chose the right designs & materials etc. but that's apple's and oranges).  It oddly works well together for these headphones.  Unfortunately the White Q701's just ruins it (The silver rings and headband make it for me).  I was never a big fan of the K702's but I like the look better then the black Q701's.  The only other color I would ever want to see the K701's would be a Mario DS Red, only if it's done tastefully like the K702.

The best of the worst isn't much better. ;P

What happened to AKG's wild side?  Two drivers in a cup, or headphones with passive radiators, or electret + dynamic headphones. ;D  Cannot the marketing department find a way to make that sound impressive?

I have to say this thread really irritated me. The entitlement and demanding tone of the OP was unsettling. There was a debate some time back about the similarities/differences of the 701 compared to the 702. There seemed to be contra opinions. Some of those were speculation. I had the 701 at the time. I was also curious myself. So, instead of having a sense of entitlement, I went out and picked up a 702 and compared them for myself. Everyone here has busy lives. No-one here owes anyone anything. We all do this on our own because we have a passion for it.

As for DavidMahler. He has contributed more to Head-Fi than most. I would suggest that if anyone (OP) that hasn't done much in the way of contributing yet to either start or keep your ridicule without foundation of well respected members to yourself. Unless you want to keep looking foolish.

If this post gets deleted, so be it. I'm only stating what many are thinking.

Peace,

Isn't this Ironic? People here are mostly Audiophiles and when a company like AKG come and add a little life and presence

to their flagship headphone, people are disappointed. Why?

Why are some people here so accustomed to such plain and mundane headphones.

And I don't mean to offend anyone by saying this, but it seems as if most people here would prefer their headphones

to have a limited amount of aesthetic appeal.

It is your choice, however, to have whatever satisfies your taste in the looks department especially if you can choose,

which is rare.

I appreciate AKG giving us the privilege to choose between over three different color choices; and the same goes to

Ultrasone for the Edition 8, except for the fact that Ultrasone go a step above that with offering different material options.

If someone wants to spend their money on a headphone others think are pointless yet they de'servingly earned the

right to own, let them. At the same time my reservations on the subject would be kept personal.

Can we all agree that having color options is an advantage in the high-end audio market we find ourselves in here?

The idea of AKG creating the Quincy Jones Line would not preclude me from buying what I want and it does not have to

keep anybody else from doing so as well.

Andrew,

Most people here are more intersted in having an advantage in sound quality, not choosing different color schemes. If you want to donate AKG and QJ an extra 100$ for your favorite look just go ahead, It's your money.

Not a bad idea considering that some would prefer a little style along with their brilliant headphones.

We can debate this over and over but if someone wishes to go the extra mile to get what they want

while contributing to AKG in thier effort to make better products could be doing more than just helping

them make money.

To everyone else I'm not trying to be foolish or annoying, but I just want to get my point across, even

though it may seem a little desperate. I do sincerely apologize for coming across too strong. It can be

difficult for a novice like me to get anywhere being nice in the experienced, well informed, educated

online community Head-Fi is.

That being said, it would be best to end this thread here. For my sake, I'm going to keep my opinion to

myself.

Thank you,

Andrew

[Audiophile1811 style] I heard among well informed people that each Quincy Jones' color version sounds a bit different. Could somebody buy all three and write down her/his impressions in a review here? I'd be grateful. Cheers. [/Audiophile1811 style]

This just goes to show that being nice doesn't pay off. And you have gone beyond being a Contributor to the site, yet you can't take me seriously?

I asked for an in-depth comparison/review of both the K701/K702 and Q701 only because my financial circumstances don't allow me to do so.

What is so hard about Understanding that? And if you don't like me, spend your time somewhere else.

No, being nice is about the only way you are going to get anywhere around here, ESPECIALLY as a newcomer. As soon as you start the douchebaggery, threads like this take a nose dive into the dirt and rarely do they recover. Best thing you can go is walk away, forget this thread exists, adjust your attitude, and start again because no amount of grovelling will get things back on track at this point.

It's strange that tension can build in a thread without any intent for it.

It may also be due to the fact that the subject would get some attention.

As for adjusting my attitude... I'm not here to please anybody.

In the near future I will probably be the one to answer my question but

keep my experience to myself so I don't waste anybody's time again.

My hope is that I can one day own both headphones (K701/Q701)

and do a review when someone starts a thread like this again.

I'll do the site a favor.

Well then don't cry about it when people aren't nice to you and don't bend over backwards to help you.
