God has just shown me his playlist. Two words; anti-folk... Regina Spektor specifically

I was recently introduced to Regina Spektor, in an effort to show me Anti-folk. My god, it is something else!

To say I have fallen in love with Regina Spektor would be an understatement. To say she sings with soul would be an unfair, as her style is far from soulful. Passion is the more appropriate word. Just listen to how her voice contains so much life-like inflection, its like singing is so natural to her that she could just as well be speaking. Add to the fact that it really is incredible music in its own merit... well all I can say is PLEASE try it out.

This really is headphone music too, her voice is so intimate and forward, it sounds like she's singing directly too you.

I would say the album to get first would be 'Songs', and my personal favorites are Oedipus and Consequence of Sounds. I'll give youtube links but if possible I would even ask that you refrain from letting youtube's inherent bad quality make a bad first impression.

Enjoy!

Update:ordered "Songs."

She is a nice change of pace when you want something a little different and off the wall.

Looking forward to it.

Good stuff!  I was looking for something different, this seems to fit the bill.

Beat boxing is not a forte, but it is cute she tries ;)

Edit: cadence and pronunciation are not either...

Edit #2: the second song is a fair bit better imo.

I very much agree that her style is different and slightly unusual. I've heard people say that her accent gets in the way of enjoying the music. However, the fact that she is different allows me to appreciate her all the more.

I like having variety in my playlist to match whatever mood strikes me.

I picked up Mary Ann Meets the Gravedigger today and so far it's great.  Thanks for the heads up.

Just stumbled across this on the forums and thought it was interesting. Kind of anti-folk-ish, so I thought I'd post it here.
