WA6: Black Gate capacitors upgrade not available anymore

Hi head-fiers, I have a stock WA6 (post-january 2010 model with PDPS though) and I learned recently that the "Black Gate capacitors upgrade" isn't available anymore. In other words, Jack from Woo Audio won't perform it anymore on any unit.

 

 

Is there a schema or a guide somewhere explaining which capacitors to choose and how to perform the modification? ;)

Black Gate caps have been out of production for a while now, and are very difficult to find. 

 

If you do manage to find them, replace the caps in the unit with similarly rated parts. While your in there you may as well upgrade the resistors too.

 

Ooh, as a last note the "standard grade" black gate caps are worth about as much as "standard grade" caps from everyone else. Interestingly they cost more. The "higher grade" BG's are awesometoast, but as mentioned very hard to find.

Thanks nikongod, after taking a look in my unit (bought it used about a week ago), I noticed the "V-caps" have been modified (with the one Jack installs when you buy the upgrade). Do you refer to these when you talk about the "resistors"?

 

And finally, there must be better capacitors than others for audio. Do you have suggestions?

 

 

Thanks a lot again, and sorry for my so-so English (not my primary language)     Still learning... I loved music since I'm very young, but I'm a total newbie in the world of "high-end" audio gear!

v-caps are capacitors (hence the "cap" in their name) ;)
