This quick review is done after a few hours of listening. I bought them from B&H for the decent sum of 150$. If you've done your research you'll find out that Ultrasone HPs are known for their...

I auditioned the SRH-1840 straight out of the box, and was unsatisfied with the sound, so I decided to give them a period of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite differences...

I didn't think of TEAC when I began searching for a dedicated CD player. My initial short list included Denon, Cambridge, Marantz, Onkyo. The Teac intrigued me, so I went for it. It is very...

The problem with his studio work is the limitations of the source material. The best versions of his Jimi Hendrix Experience studio albums to my ears are the 2010 Legacy vinyl releases.

Check out the 2010 release "Valleys of Neptune"
I have both CD and 180grm vinyl editions and the recording, mastering and playing are all incredible.

I second Valleys of Neptune. The best recorded by far. Unfortunately not the best of his work, but still good.
In addition to Band of Gypsys, you could listen to Electric Ladyland which although "studio" has a lot of "live studio" in it. The Experience boxed set that came out a few years ago has a lot of good live cuts. And finally his "Blues" album, which is very fine regardless of which venue frames any given song.

Thank you for your recommendations.
Some of the recordings I have now are so bad I just do not understand why anyone would publish it. A few tracks sound like 64 Kbps MP3. Even for collectors of Jimmi Hendrix a lot of what's out there is worthless - imho. I appreciate your recommendations... time to go searching

It is very frustrating listening to Hendrix for exactly this reason. You might also consider trying the Stevie Ray Vaughan versions of some of his songs, as they are equally incredible, but much better recorded. Other than that, the albums that have already been suggested is about as good as I can suggest as well.

He only authorized one live recording, Band Of Gypsies, so yeah that's really the only properly recorded one. What's wrong with his studio work, do you think it was badly recorded?
The recordings aren't bad but are poorly handled by the labels. IMHO, the best mastered studio albums are the Ultimate Experience Box set that MCA released in 1992.
Previous releases were hurridly put out to cash in on new formats (tape and CD). Subsequent releases have clipping and other audio problems. I have Ultimate and I love it. It's not perfect (channel switching on EXP isn't as smooth as I would like) but I haven't heard anything better.
