It is but I don't see how you would plug in an optical cable

Apparently it is a combo coax/optical jack.  Try it.

Well im not home this second so ill try when i get home, but the cable i currently have is...

http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-AV20000-06-PureAV-Digital-Optical/dp/B0001VWHH2/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1297722586&sr=1-3

but i just don't see how it would fit into the same slot as the coax cable i have

I believe you will need the 3.5mm optical "mini" cable.  Either that or an adapter, which according to Nuforce rep on this page should have been provided with your HDP.

I did have the proper adapters (two minis) and it did fit but i still don;t get any sound out of it. I go more into detail here

You may want to troubleshoot that in the HDP thread, I'm sure they could help you set that up, I'm not too familiar with Windows.

Regardless, the NFB10ES will run out of optical (regular toslink not mini version) or coax or with the digital usb interface they're selling for 30% off when you buy the NFB10.

Bumping this thread. Anyone have anything new to add?

If someone is seeking to step up to a better headphone amp than the one in the Nuforce HDP, the Headamp GS-1 is definitely one to consider.

The DAC in the HDP sounded pretty good until I compared it to the audioengine d1, which is just as good sounding as the avguide.com review says it is. I bought it thinking I would be sending it back, but it turned out to be a keeper.
