What does this guy have against the Zune?

Jude had posted this site on the head-fi's homepage. It is a review by Michael on the Total Bithead. He says this "You can use this little gem with just about anything, whether you rock an iPod or a Zune (and if it’s the latter, I offer my condolences)." What does he mean by this? I thought that Zunes had a more nuetral sound signature than Ipods. I also thought that Zunes plain out sound better than ipods, the headphone jack is of way better quality...Am I missing something here? Am I right?

Sounds biased to me; I like the Zune's sound better... Although the older hard drive Zunes did have some background noise.

I imagine he means that the Zune never caught on and offered any kind of real competition to the iPod. MS has yet to officially announce any plans to update the Zune which has remained untouched since the HDs. It is a shame since the Zune was oh so close to being the perfect DAP for me. SQ is superior and I loved the interface but I found the amp to be too noisy and no gapless playback. Also, launching apps took way too long.

Now that Windows Phone 7 is out and will be getting some refinements soon, hopefully - similar to the Touch- they will release a non- phone version. Till then, Zune is virtually dead in the eyes of the general consumer market.

I loved mine too, but with that few apps I figured it was mostly just a music player, and I might as well get a full DMP at that point.

I don't see any more Zunes coming, considering all of MS's marketing is going into phones... hope I'm wrong though.
