Trimming the cable on the Denon D2000?

Thread Starter

well, ive finally decided on what set to buy and keep for a while ;)

but the cable needs to be trimmed and i wanted to seek some advice from cable experts here before I proceed with a purchase.  I have soldering and re-cabling experience but I have never trimmed a cable before.  Would it cause problems if i were to simply snip a few feet off the cable and reattach it to a new adapter?

Nope, not at all. Go for it!

Hey Now,

I just re-cabled my AH-D2K's and I must say that the stock oem cable is something to wrangle with. It gets twisted/kinked pretty good, at least mine did. I think it is the way it is constructed. It has some kind of memory, being shorter may help with how it lays for you.

Be careful when you strip back the sheath. You'll find many strands of cotton fiber wrapping the conductor wires which are sheathed as well. You do not want to nick those internal conductor wires. Before you cut the cable, wrap a piece of electrical tape on the outside of the cable at the cut off position otherwise you may find the outer covering unraveling quite easily. Don't ask how I know this 8^). I used a Furutech 1/4" TRS, a bit overkill, but nice. A Neutrik is a bit smaller and cheaper. I also re-purposed my D2K cable, turned it into a mini to RCA interconnect >>

The Denon AH-D2K oem cable makes a better interconnect than headphone cable 8^). There is a tutorial by Fallen Angel on how to re-cable a Denon AH-D2K, good stuff. Good luck.
