$88.00 for a PAIR of solid silver balanced interconnects- White Zombie Audio

I was browsing Ebay the other day for some silver wire for headphones, and I see this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1-Pair-XLR-BALANCED-1-meter-SOLID-SILVER-AUDIO-CABLES-/330509320744?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf3e40228#ht_2456wt_1141

A 1 meter pair of pure silver balanced interconnects, with Neutrik connectors, for $88. Lengths up to 3 meters for rock bottom prices as well. I almost couldn't believe my eyes, but I went to the website, http://whitezombieaudio.com/ , and they are legit.

I emailed them about getting some custom made for a headphone cable, and in the end it didn't work out as they are really an interconnect company and their cables are configured for that. However, Tom responded to my emails quickly and courteously, and gave me a lot of information. At the end, he suggested buying one of their cables and making it into  a headphone cable. At their prices, that would not be a bad deal. Tom said he worked long and hard to make a cable that sounded better than the Kimber Silver Streak. Whether this is true or not, I will leave up to the listener. However, the price is amazing. Tom seemed really sincere, and recommended me another company, homegrownaudio, for my needs. Tell me what you think.

I think I will eventually buy a pair of their ZeroPointZero XLR interconnects and either make an interconnect for a balanced amp or a headphone cable for a headphone I really like.

$88.00 for a pair of pure silver balanced interconnects that could be better than Kimber Silver Streak? Anyone even the slightest bit interested?

I know everybody here loves expensive cables. I also know they would spend less money on them if they performed better. Can anyone tell me how any of the White Zombie ICs perform? I am getting my rig finalized, so I have no opportunity to try them out at the moment.

Seems like a really good deal for silver interconnects.  Just keep in mind that it's solid core, not stranded, so you have to be careful with it.  Solid core silver can break easily.

I know that it is solid core. That is part of the reason why it offers so much value. For interconnects I don't see a problem if you treat it well, but a  headphone cable might be stretching the cable's usefulness. I think I might try it in the distant future anyway, once I get an idea of a good headphone that would benefit from it.

For someone looking for a neutral or very clear and revealing interconnect, I don't see how you can go wrong. Tom, the owner, told me this was the closest they could get to hardwiring the components together. The same pair of Kimber Silver Streak is $600 retail. I wish I could compare the two, but I don't have anywhere near the components or money needed to do such a comparison.

You should also consider the SignalCable Silver Resolution, Slightly more expansive but it's stranded. Anyone tried that one?

HGA has kits to make your own version of this, basically a tri-braid of silver wires in loose teflon tubes.  This was my first cable project ever, and it went pretty well although I had no heat gun at the time and had to use a lighter on the heatshrink :-(

I bought my silver cable too from HGA to make myself an XLR to spade cable for my HE-6. I used a hair dryer to shrink the heatshrink  :-)
