CLOSED Group buy for CTH (Compact Tube Hybrid) PCB

Thread Starter

I'm going to be putting together my first group buy and I want to get an interest check to see if it's at all possible.  Recently it came to my attention that the CTH PCB was out of production, and I've wanted to build this amp but never got a chance. After contacting runeight about setting up a group buy, we decided it was best to get the ball rolling to see who wants in. I need at least 20 PCBs to be bought in the group buy to make it worth it. If we get more than 20 then I'm assuming it would be cheaper per PCB. Let me know how many boards you want and we'll go from there.

Some things to note about this PCB. It's revision 2021. There are a few part changes that fixes some of the problems with the older version. This includes a bigger

C3H, a TO-220 Q1P, and more heater voltages.

Thanks,

Mullet

I have followed the old CTH thread and saw you putting together new GB. I would like to buy 2 or 3 boards and was wondering if you knew of parts list for PCB 2021, or does it need to be brought forward from older rev and updated?

Also, if there is anything I can asist with let me know. I can fund some of this if we need to reach goal amount to GB PCB. I would like to GB case or other high price parts as well. I plan on building two or three of these as gifts and would like to see this move forward.

Any idea about how much would one PCB cost if we reach the goal?

An interested person, here.  I would most likely get one - two PCB's

I'm in for one two PCBs just for kicks.    Soon I'll have 3 CTHs built & will likely be selling my "fancy" off to fund other projects.

WRT DannyBuoy's other parts for GB - Cases may be out as many like to customize things.  BTW I'd recommend the one-step longer Hammond that many used over the CTH target one. It affords better pot, 1/4" jack & RCAs.

Anything more than the PCB alone may make the GB more complex, if considering more I bet most would like the LM2595 & its coils included as they are harder to get (esp overseas, if this GB is including international).  Jut my 2c.

I like the idea of having a larger case for things like 1/4", RCA, etc. However, I agree that this should be a PCB only GB. If others want to get into the case then I'm sure we can branch that off or you're on your own. Adding things in like the LM2595 and its coils makes more sense because they are consistently needed for this project. In regards to how to deal with this internationally, perhaps it might be a good idea to split up the duties ie I'll handle US/Canada, someone else handles Europe, another person handles Australia/Asia. I can buy everything up front and have each regional person PayPal me for the PCBs requested (and other parts, etc if they are included). Sound like a plan? Suggestions are welcome.

I am interested in one PCB. Also i think that now we're into this it would be interesting to include LM2595 and coil.

Mullet - I may assist with a part of this GB (e.g. mabye a "pesky parst" sub GB, maybe int'l shipping if there was any).

I'll PM you about this if things get moving (e.g. at least 20 PCB definites - no wafflers please:)

I'm in for one as well, for kicks, as I already have a CTH (proto) and another PCB on the way.  Just trying to move this foward.

The LM2595 and coil aren't hard to find, all the prototypers had no problem obtaining them, IIRC.  I got mine from Digikey, I think.

What's the target cost, Mullet?

Any interest in organizing another exstata run, with the updates? ;)

So it looks like we're about half way there if everyone sticks to their requested amount. I'm not sure how much these boards will cost if we get a run of 20, but I think they would be at least around what runeight originally was selling them for, which was $20. He told me that if we hit the 20 mark it would put us in a "ballpark good number" per board. Hope that helps those who are on the fence.

Regarding exstata... I'm not even in that league yet. I don't have any electrostatic phones that are calling for this amp, so for now I'll pass on a group buy. Hopefully, in the future this will change. ;)

I'll commit to one board, for "kicks" as well. Maybe couple boards if the price is low enough.

The CTH definitely is one of the projects I'd like a backup board for.

I'm in for one board. Never know if they'll be available again.

I am interested in 1 or 2 boards too.

I don't think there is real reason for this. From US to Europe small parcel is about 10-15$, inside Europe about the same, so no economy, probably even little more expensive + extra job.

Ok... If it's not a huge deal to ship internationally then I'm game. If anything it's probably just a few more bucks to ship outside the CONUS. Anyone who has experience with this please chime in. I think we're at 11-13 boards depending on if people take their max amount specified. If I have to pick up more than one board to make this happen I'm game. I'll either use or sell it later on. Having fun reading through both the main thread and tweaks thread... ;)

Being one of the origional, you can definetly count me in for one of the newest boards :) I love this amp and would love to share it with more people (like lend one to all my friends)
