Exploding LM1875

I have a 30v +/- dual unregulated power supply that powers a 25 watt monobloc audio amplifier. Every time I plug the transformer / power supply into the AC mains, the LM1875 chip on the audio amp explodes. Yes, explodes. I believe the cause of this is an inductive voltage spike coming from the transformer. I went through three IC's before I figured that out, but there it is. I am strapped for cash and need a very simple solution for dealing with this voltage spike. Any suggestions? P.S. For some reason, I can't reply from my phone (computer is down). But even though I'm not responding, I am checking. Thanks!

+/-30 volts is the ABSOLUTE maximum voltage for the LM1875.

using an unregulated +/-30V powersupply will yield around +/-42volts when unloaded. BAM!

use a +/- 18V transformer. with at least 100VA capacity for good PSU performance.

GOOD LUCK!
