how good is the fiio e5?

will it improve my laptops sound card. if not where can i get a dac that can as my sound card is utter garbage.

 

i am in canada so finding one is a very tricky thing to do. most places don't even know what a headphone dac/amp is.

garbage in garbage out. E5 might make it better, depending on how garbage your card is.

i have the conexant hd audio card. and i cannot upgrade my audio card as its a laptop.

FiiO E7 or Nuforce uDAC should do the job for you. If you don't mind them used, try the for sale forum and you can save yourself some money.

Listing of Candian audio companies

 

Not counting the used ones, the lowest priced uDAC in Canada that I know of is from Fulcrum Audio.

 

Hot Audio's Bit Perfect is another Canadian DAC/amp option:
