[Question] Cable care and damage

I have a pair of Ultrasones and recently the cable got stuck in between two sliding desk drawers at work. There doesn't appear to be any major damage as these are some pretty hefty cables but I do notice a very slight indentation where the pinching occurred. Is it possible for the cable on the inside to be damaged (I'm not hearing anything sonically different, I'm just paranoid)? Are there proper ways to care for your cables? How much abuse can they take?

I am also curious. I suppose I could search for answers, and I probably will, but it couldn't hurt to ask here. my RE0 cables get sooooooooo tangled so easily. I try to take good care of them and they have certainly held up, but I just have to stick em in my pocket quickly sometimes... How should I store them in a pocket safely?

(500th post! I feel like I should be bumping my music thread.... this seems like kind of a waste of such a remarkable occasion...)

Inside the cable is probably soft litz type wire.  Squashing it, within reason, is not going to sever it.

It's stranded copper in a pvc jacket generally, to damage it you'd have to cut all the way though the jacket first.
