Static

Hello right no my rig consists of  foobar 2k -> WASPI -> x-fi xtreme audio -> Burson HA-160 -> HD-650.  X-FI is set to 24 bit 48k output I also match this in the foobar settings.  On many songs in my collection when there is alot of action there is a static that pops up on the high end of vocals.  Most of the files are 192k + bitrate and the static is still there.  If I try a different pair of headphones the static stays the same.  Is this just due to low quality files or is this somthing the x-fi is causing.  Im going to get the Burson Dac when it comes out (hopefully soon) so I don't have a separate DAC to try right now.    I can get the distortion to happen consistantly but it appears in some places and some places it does not.   Ex Christina Aguilera - Fighter in this song there is periods of static in the 1:00 minute + range.   Any ideas?

Might be digital clipping, doing some DSP somewhere like bass boost?

Maybe a high latency, try DPC Latency Checker

Plug your headphones directly into the x-fi xtreme audio, without playing any music turn the volume to max and see if you can hear the static , do the same with the headphone amp disconnect it from the x-fi set the volume to max and see if you can hear the static, then you should be able to find out which device is causing it.

Also always have the x-fi's volume set to max and control the volume with the headphone amp.

Latency meter shows absolute max as 153 ps.  I have all eqs disabled and dsp as well.  Did not try plugging directly into the soundcard yet but if I turn to max on the burson amp there is no static at all (in silence).

Okay I took the amp out of the situation and I can still hear it a little but its not as pronounced.  It has the same effect out of my x-fi and onboard sound (realtek).  Bad quality files??
