With the amp, the bass feels different... but its better...
the sub-bass got a boost, and the highs hold a very good presence now. Bass Booster on the E5 + Treble Booster on the iPod is my preferred combo (Mid-fans, eat your hearts out >:D )
The combo of that seems to 'fix' the veiled highs while allowing for the strong bass to co-exist peacefully, imo.
And this is with that very thin cord. I'm not sure about what a LOD will do to change it.

Another tip for customizing your K518. There are sets of replacement velour earpads and headband paddings for the Sennheiser HD25. These work with the K518. The velour earpads might be a tight fit for the K518, but they work. I bought a black headband pad for my wife's new white K518LE (I bought her that and a pair of Sennheiser HD25 1:II for myself). I have not tried the velour earpads on her K518LE, but I have read on Head Fi that it works. The headband padding eases some of the pressure on the top of the head and the velour earpads are supposed to be a bit more comfortable than the original pleather ones.
There are a lot of different colors if you want your K518 to be unique:
And of course:

sooooo... whenever someone at school wants to try out my headphones... they usually put it on some WUBWUBWUB bassheavy dubstep song... and turn it up to max volume... and change the EQ to Bass Booster...
I'm pretty worried about my drivers being damaged.

Aren't people worried about damaging their hearing? What is it with some younger people who blast the music at 100%? They are not listening to music. They are listening to noise.
Your headphones should survive a short blast of loud music, but perhaps you should tell your friends to protect their hearing. And point out that music usually sounds better at a more moderate level.

What about a possible total 15-30min of abuse...
before my LOD came in, I'd adjust the volume with my iPod and keep the amp at max volume... so both the amp and the ipod would pump 100%...
Luckily, I found that this underclassman who asked me for headphone advice actually bought some purple K518LEs, so I'll see if I can find him (don't have any classes with him this year) and compare headphones to see if my drivers happen to be damaged. If they are, can I just ship them out to AKG? I heard it takes a few weeks to get them repaired... that is such a bummer...
Also, I've been having problems with getting a proper LOD!!! I buy an L1 from the Micca store, but they send me a E1, and then I buy one from that irish dude and it comes defective (not his fault though)... if my third attempt at getting a LOD fails... that would suck...

Do the headphones sound different from before? Is there a buzzing sound or anything. I have not heard headphones with damaged drivers, but I would imagine that damaged drivers maight make sounds that should not be there...

The K518 is a DJ phone. According to AKG it can take 2W input power, so I wouldn't be that worried about damaging them with an E5.

That sounds logical to me... I also purchased some AKG K518 LE's as a Christmas gift. I tried them out before packing and they sound very nice.
