Philadelphia, Delaware and New Jersey Area mini meet impressions - Page 4

Our wallets may be empty but are ears are filled. :) Hey we have to justify it right? LoL

Frank and his wonderful wife were excellent hosts. I helped do what I could. I think it was everyone that came that really made it all worth while. All a bunch of great guys. Oh yeah, the equipment was also "kid in a candy store" good. I'm ready for another one.

LCD-2's arrived today.  I bought them from a Head-Fi'er.  he said they were almost new...he wasn't kidding...the FR graph was printed on 1/14/2011.

He said he preferred his HD-600's. There's no way he even let them break in enough to make that kind of decision, but his loss is my gain...New LCD-2's, small discount AND no waiting!

Anyway, right out of the box I'm in love.  They have the same transparency I heard at the meet-up a week ago...and this is with the stock single -ended cable.  I find the treble extension to be wonderful without being too bright, but I come from HD-650's so I expect them to have more sparkle. They are definitely not as bright as HD-800's, and that's fine by me.

These are the thick pad version...pics to come.

Right now, I'm driving them with a Little Dot MKIII and loving it.  I've rolled in a pair or Western Electric 6AK5's and so far it seems like plenty of power for decent listening levels.  Nothing sounds like it's threatening to clip and the dynamics, both macro and micro, sound complete and effortless.  I'm going to try the Lyr when it becomes available to see what kind of difference HUGE power reserves make, but if this is under-driving them, I'm pretty damn impressed.

Great Lee. The nice thing is the LCD2 can be driven so easily.  I know you will enjoy them as much as everyone does and look  forward to your impressions on the LCD2 page. I have the HE6 in house and HD800 coming Tuesday so I will add one more as I sold the T1

You've got the Amp for the HE-6...for me it was out of reach for now as it would have cost a grand for the cans PLUS another $500+ for an amp for them.

Plus I love the LCD-2's.

I was reading that they really don't improve much with burn in...is that your experience as well?  That's fine by me as they sound awesome, I just want to know whether to stop my usual pink noise regimen.

they only improvement is the cable will get better. I would not burn in I also have done nothing with burn in with the HE6. Just listen to them what will happen will be very subtle if any improvement with them from my experience.

Agreed. The ear pad might get more comfortable and the cable might warm up a little, but other than that....my LCD-2's and my HE-6's have sounded the same since the first day that I put them on my head.

The amp, on the other hand....

You may be able to upgrade your amps for true bliss if you decide to sell the Gilmore and Little Dot you can go with a Woo 6 and come out with a few dollars or look for a 6SE only a suggestion but if you like what you hear by all means you can be done

I agree with Frank. Selling the Little Dot and the GLite will get you into the Woo 6. I have no doubt the Woo will be an improvement and will do nicely with the LCD-2.

I hear you about the amp...tho the LD does a more credible job that you might expect.

I'll wait until the Lyr is available in March...I liked what I heard from their solid state amp and a Class A tube/SS hybrid that can do 6w might be great...if it sounds good.

If not that, then maybe the Woo.

As it is, this is shaping up nicely...

So Frank, How are the HE6's standing up against your LCD2.  Enjoying the HD800's??  Inquiring minds want to know....

Interesting to see that Frank, Joey and I are all trying to get onto the HE-6P loaner list.  Even if only one of us gets on, we should meet up and listen.

Sounds good to me.  I'm pretty sure I want them, but I'd like another listen, just to confirm before I lay out that kind of cash....  I may need Franks help to work Fang over for a better price :)

Hehe...I'm working on Fang to have me do some product photography for him...maybe I'll take some payment in trade. Gotta see if they sound as good as the less efficient version 1st.

Cant help you there with the price but He will put you on the list for sure just send him a PM. He is asking 899.00 for them but here may be an introductory price and if all hjold through it will be better than the loaner one. At least I can say that HE6 is much better than the one I heard in the loaner program.
