in theory, there should be no difference, since you will not get a balanced advantage. HOWEVER, it is possible that either the rca or xlr outputs of your dac will be giving a better sound relative to each other. someone above mentioned the issues with the DACMagic's rca outputs being compromised. at the same time, some other DACs are not truly balanced, and instead split and invert the signal in their output stage, sometimes with less than stellar results.
in the end, youre just going to have to either (1) buy the cables and test which output sounds better, or (2) check the schematics and find out if either of the two outputs is compromised in some way.
Cheers - the DAC is the Yulong D100. I will make it a plan to test both outputs then. It means buying two sets of cables then...In terms of the schematics - I would not know what I'd be looking for - for that sort of thing. I also thought that theoretically it didn't make sense that I would get any improvement connecting like that. Thanks!
