Noob Question - DACs

Hey, I ordered a Fiio E7 for my laptop and its on its way.  However my laptop is old and I am looking into getting a new one, does the laptop have to have a digital auio output for the DAC to work?  I don't even though if they are related but I know the E7 is a digital audio converter (DAC) so does that mean my laptop has to have digital audio output for it to be able to work?

So having a digital audio output has nothing to do with the use of a DAC?

It does -- just in this case, the USB becomes your digital audio out.
