which rockbox version on 240gb ipod??

I just ordered the apricorn 240gb upgrade kit and should arrive sometime next week.

Does the current version of RB (3.7.1) now support 240gb or do I need to install a different version??

I've searched the Rockbox site but cant find any information whether to install current version or some other patches for it to work.

I have seen some posts here on head-fi stating you need special version and patches but these are old posts and just wondering if anything has changed since.

Don't afraid about GB of your iPod for Rockbox go to last version, install it automatically.

It goes for every myPod from flash memory => to different sizes of hard drives => and ssd cards

All the info you need to verify is the generation of your iPod, as the HDD size means nothing. Use the installer and enjoy!!!

cool, thanks guys.

yeah the latest version is working great right now (except had problem with mozart opera album skipping track order, but I'm guessing its got to do with act numbers confusing RB)

well, hopefully I will be able to install the HDD without screwing up the ipod.

was a hard decision whether to spend that much on HDD upgrade or just spend the money on new albums..but in the end, I just hate updating and transferring song files on a daily/weekly bases. besides I never can guess what I am in the mood to listen ahead of time....tongue_smile.gif

another quick question...

does the increased HDD size effect the battery life? as far as I know, I read that the new 240gb HDD are more efficient with power, which I assume should increase the battery life if all things considered are equal.. However,  not sure if bigger drive (in data, not hardware size since they are same)  also means more spin due larger size of data, relating in more searching time (if that even makes sense..I am just not a technical person..)

I will be replacing the HDD tonight, which comes with an extended battery, but my current battery is already new ( just recently bought an unopened 5.5gen so battery life is already around +14 hrs using lossless), and thinking maybe its better to use up this one more and switch the battery later on, when the current battery life is down...

That I personally can't answer,...but Rockbox tends to add battery life to iPods and other portables (well, my clip+). I don't think you'll suffer for it.

as my unit currently stands, with rockbox I get +14hrs with lossless on a full charge, which is quite enough for me personally.

if it stays the same with the larger HDD I'm inclined to keep the battery as is. and it might even improve, as I have read that the new toshiba drives are more power efficient...

.though the unkown is whether more (overall allocated data space, not necessarily used)  data on HDD results in more search spin, resulting in more power usage...or is the opposite true, by having HDD with more empty space allow less actual area covered with drive head (as in if ther HDD is half full, and if the data writing is generally linear,  than say the drive will mostly concentrate data either on the outer side or inner, depending on how it stores, and correspondingly the drive head will concentrate its movement only in half the area of the disk)

...does that make sense?? or should I start on a science fiction novel while I'm on a roll here??  blink.gif

an update on my own post in case others might be interested..

I have installed 240GB HDD with Rockbox and kept my old battery, and pairing up to an external amp I got a run time of 17.5 hours with %5 battery left, using all  ALAC files. This was somewhat with regular use, though I generally listen to whole albums rather than individual songs.

I say that is pretty damn good battery life...so I guess the 240GB HDD did not effect battery life negatively, in fact it may have improved it slightly.

I still have the extended battery that came with the apricorn HDD upgrade kit, and will install it when the original battery starts dying.. happy camper here :)
