Hey Everyone,
This is my first time posting on the forums, even tho I've read stuff quite frequently on the site.
Recently I had some extra cash and got fed up with my stock Ipod headphones and broken computer headset and decided to buy myself a nice pair of headphones. After going to a few stores and trying on a bunch of different pairs I settled on the Beyerdynamic dt 990 pro's. Now given I don't know really anything about this sort of stuff(tho I am very interested), I chose them because they sounded clearer then most of the other headphones I tried and didnt have a supper punchy bass to them like many did. They seemed pretty standard but everything sounded crisp. Mind you everything I tried sounded miles better then the Ipod headphones.
One of the guys I talked to at a music store said that with the headphones I bought, given they have 250 ohms of resistance, I wont truly being hearing the optimal sound quality and volume they can output until I got an amp. Which is the real reason im posting.
Im looking for an amp to use on my desktop computer for some games and movies, but mostly music. I was reading that some people use a DAC (don't know what that is) and then an amp. What exactly does this do?
Is there any starting amp that someone could recommend to a total beginner like me? I'd be willing to spend up to $150, if that can even get me anything.
Also for informations sake, I mostly listen to jazz/ska/reggae, with some hip hop and occasional metal bands. I have spdif out and optical out on my computer (aswell as a normal 5.1 motherboard setup).
Gonna say thanks in advance and can't wait to learn more about this sorta stuff!
