I've got a chewed up cable on my HD 428. Would it be worth it to recable myself or sell them and my Bose earbuds and just buy something new and probably better. I'm pretty timid about soldering and recabling the headphones myself and the earbuds were free and stay in place while running. Is it really easy enough for someone with no experience to recable and get a benefit out of it?

I auditioned the SRH-1840 straight out of the box, and was unsatisfied with the sound, so I decided to give them a period of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite differences...

Do I have the correct parts to recable? Sennheiser HD 428
Anyone?
I would just search this forum on "HD428" and see what others are doing about cables, and whether it's worth your while.
They won't net you much $$ without a cable. I taught myself to solder and do a cable repair on the same wires for my AKG recently. It was time-consuming and the result not beautiful, but also not inordinately difficult. Depending on where the chewing is, it may be easiest to cut your cable and attach a new jack at the end opposite your phones. If you cut it in the middle and repair the broken or frayed wires, be sure you educate yourself about heat-shrink tubing. You may have to know about HS for the jack replacement also. Again, not hard to DIY, but you have to take the time and care. The result would give you a bump in the middle of the cable but should not harm acoustics if done right. You're not dealing with an HD800, anyway.
There are plenty of people on this forum who know way more than I about cabling. Just browse around the cabling or recabling threads, ask questions -- you'll see. They're helpful folks. Don't look at high-end cables for this unit unless you love the phone.
Done a lot of reading on here and i'm about to order these. Are these the correct parts??
