Swan/HiVi?

Thread Starter

My father recently purchased a pair of Swan M200MKIII's and I have to say I was rather impressed. The sound and finish quality are particularly good for a product at that price level. What do people know about this company? I have searched around and haven't been able to find much information apart from what is shown on their website and a few other small retailers. My understanding is that they are popular in places like China but haven't really penetrated the global market. I am interested because I'm looking at purchasing one of the following models:

M20Whttp://www.swanspeaker.com/products/products.aspx?cid=5&sid=0&pid=21
M50Whttp://www.swanspeaker.com/products/products.aspx?cid=5&sid=0&pid=22

If anyone could help me out with impressions, opinions, etc it would be greatly appreciated.

Alex.

Here is a comment I left for another about the lesser D1080MKII08...If my wife would have let me, I would have bought the 200MkIII's!

"I highly recommend the Swan D1080MkII 08's. I just bought them about 1 month ago and have compared them directly (A-B'd) to the M-Audio AV40's see my AVS forum post here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=19669639&highlight=#post19669639 They are considerably better than the AV40's and much less directional IMHO. Much fuller sound, better imaging, great midbass, lower extending bottom end and very smooth overall. Very surprising for the money!

John at TAI was VERY helpful upon purchasing them too. http://www.theaudioinsider.com/

Give them a listen...you won't be disappointed!

Brian"

Here is one on the M20w's... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=83b32e6f4aad05fa2c8fbd471861ba62&p=19530618#post19530618

I have been very happy with these so far!

I have the Swan M200MkIII and they're probably the best "toy" I've ever bought myself. I'm consistently blown away by how rich and detailed the sound is. I feel like a bit of a shill for hyping them in every thread, but it's how I feel. Whenever I eventually put together a component stereo system with a power amp or upgrade my home theater, Swan speakers will be at the top of my list.

As to the company, they're kind of mysterious. I recall finding some information about the company a few weeks ago but I can't find it now. The gist of it was that HiVi is a big Chinese company that manufactures parts/speakers for other audio companies. They have a huge manufacturing facility in China. Swan is their own in-house brand that's fairly big in China but obscure in the US. Take that with a grain of salt because I may be remembering incorrectly.

...just my opinion, but I would never feel bad about "hyping" a great product! That is exactly how I found these myself...I'm glad there are individuals who do this about products that are really good for the $$$! ...there...now I hope you don't feel "like a bit of a shill" anymore!

Anyone considering the M-audio AV40's or BX5a's should really give these Swan / Hivi products a try. I returned my AV40's after I demoed them side by side to the D1080MkII 08's (IMHO the D1080MkII 08's blew em out of the water) and read all of the amp problems with the AV40's. I decided that I didn't want to be another one that they "died" on!

...another GREAT cost effective audio product...take a look at Emotiva!

Thank you everyone for the replies, but does anyone have experience with the models I mentioned?

Alex.

There is a huge "Swan Owners Thread" over at AVS Forum where people who have experience with a wide variety of Swan speakers congregate. Jon from The Audio Insider (their US internet dealer) hangs out there too and will answer questions.

Heh, I just thought I'd say I got the MkIII's in part thanks to you, and I couldn't be happier. They're just as good as you said, and I'm one of them picky ones that can't help finding fault with everything. So thank you.

I'm a big fan of Swan/HiVi also. My entire HT and my 2 channel system comprise of Swan speakers :) IMO they give great bang for the buck.

PS: 06s2k07si -- I see we both share a love of the s2000 and Swan speakers! I own a 2002 S2000, If I can, I think I will keep it until it rusts to the ground.

Trying to decide between the m10 and D1010MkII08 for music listening (possibly D1080MkII08 if there is a big difference over the 1010)

WIll sit in the bedroom with an Iphone as the source

As I was originally looking at those as well, Jon over at The Audio Insider, explained that the biggest difference in the 1010 vs the 1080 was primarily in the bottom end extension.

I had the M10 and was super happy with them - great detail and fairly punchy bass for such a small setup. You definitely have to put the sub on your desk - otherwise you won't hear anything if the sub is on the floor. However, about 1 year after owning them, the right satellite stopped working :( It was right after the 1 year warranty expired, so I think I'm out of luck.
