That's the beauty of this question, you don't have to be the voice of experience because it's not about other peoples experiences, it's about yours.  The first and only dac I've currently got is the Bryston bda1 but that will change.

The Ayon Skylla-2 is slightly better sounding thanthe cd-5 I dynamics, and soundstage

and imaging for the 3 big R core transformers now no longer need to share duties with the

transport duties just 2 for the analog section and one for the digital,

also I have the Bryston player and  Seagate USB hard drive this is a more musical approach then any transport the external hard drive feeds to the Bryston which

has a 4 gig Solid state buffer ,thento a Anagela@ modified sound card then to a

totally discreet class- A   Output section.andmy whole library on the drive

using a bd power amp program  all album art is there .I am using a IPad

Mpad app but any droid app will also work  right from your chair .

I find the Wireworld Platinum USB, And xlr  digital cables  complement this system

very well.

the best DAC currently in the market place money no object is probably the Stahltek Opus D/A......

Best I've heard, out of about half a dozen, is the Wyred 4 Sound DAC2.

The comment about the wired for sound being the best,

that would only apply to dacs under the 4 k range as far as musical and rich as in life

I bought the Ayon Skylla -2  it is more 3 dimensional than the Wiess 202

the Berkeley-2 was rated 3 rd. wired for sound a distant 4 th. I had much more money to spend but did not need to, I am using the exceptional Bryston digital player

with a 1- T external hard drive  using Wire world Platinum USB cable

and Platinum  xlr cable , and Synergistc Research T-2 power cords using a IPad

The whole cd library is there with all album art , this is the future of digital Hirez music

with all the convience with excellent results.

Maybe, I was applying it to DACs I have heard. We can't speak for those we have not.

Bryston BDA-1. Paired up with the Bryston BDP-1 and 196K downloads it sounds particularly good. The BDA-1 replaced my Mark Levinson No. 36s DAC and the Bryston surpasses it in every way.

Best DAC i've heard?  I would say the Kondo KSL DAC.

I've owned a few DACs over the years - PS Audio Digilink II, MHDT Havana, M2Tech Young and i'm currently enjoying the Rega DAC.

I worked in an ultra-high end audio store during part of grad school and I am currently pretty active with a local audio club so I have heard dozens of top tier DACs.  Many have impressed me in one way or another but the one DAC that stood out in terms of my overall impression was the Audio Logic DAC 34 that I heard over a decade ago.  It was head and shoulders above the other digital gear that I owned or was familiar with (Meridian, Accuphase, Mark Levinson, Audio Note, etc) at the time.  Not sure how it would stack up to current DACs but it was really great sounding DAC back in the day.

That Ayon Skylla 2 seems to be quite a beast with 6H30 tube x4 and 6X4 rectifier tube x4 not to mention the build quality, all appropriate for the $8500 asking price.  I am sure it sounds wonderful.

I will just add my 2 cents that IME DAC's with well-engineered tube output stage, especially if tube-rectified as well, will almost certainly sound more "3 dimensional," richer in harmonics than practically any other DAC's with solid state output stage.  On the other hand, a DAC with SS only output like Weiss 202 really struts its stuff when mated to a beautiful tube preamp, to the point where sound is unrecognizable.

The skylla is even better if you throw in some nos dr supertubes in it and some tube dampeners on the power and output tubes.

this is the first ive seen of this skylla dac, specially here on Head-Fi. No one wanted to do any reviews for it huh?

I think there is only about 3 of us that have one.
