Unknown Beyerdynamic Connector

Hi Head-Fi,

 

I'm in the progress of recabling my dt-990. I came across this connector thing that links the positive and ground terminals. What is it and do I need it?

It's a pair of zener diodes. Some manufacturers put them there to protect the driver from being over-driven.
