New to PC audio and trying to find the best DAC solution for UNDER $250usd

Hello all;

I am looking for a USB DAC/pre-amp (with volume controlled RCA line out) for my new PC rig. I am running a pair of Swan D1080MkII 08's paralleled with a Polk PSW111 powered sub. I'm just looking for the best sounding/most reliable solution under $250usd or preferably less.

The relatively narrowed down options list seems to be Nuforce uDAC-2, Firestone Fubar III, Maverick Audio Tube Magic D1 DAC, Audio-GD NFB-12 (perhaps the best contender so far?), Zero DAC (w/opa627's).  Is there enough of a difference in any of these DAC's (the way I will use it in my configuration) to be overly picky? Should I just go with the uDAC-2 because it's easy to get and be done with it? I've been reading here for a while and have read many reviews on many DAC's and I seem to be just going around in circles about this. Am I over analyzing this? Any other thoughts/ suggestions etc?

I am currently just using the 3.5mm line out from the onboard sound card in my Lenovo Think Centre PC.

Thank you for any assistance, Brian

i bought an Aune a few months ago, it's still working good...it's also a decent headphone amp which is nice as my amp doesn't have a headphone socket.  For some reason it's not mentioned all that much, but i'm guessing the udac2 should be basically as good.

Thankyou! I appreciate your suggestion. I looked at that unit too, but I believe the volume control doesn't vary the RCA output, ultimately I would like that as an option.

Thanks, Brian
