Computer audio problem

Thread Starter

I have been hearing some disturbance in audio, for example like when i increase the volume knob from my pre-amp i can hear some hissing, loading some pages in internet the music tends to be "lagging" or once in awhile it will occur.  I run the latency test and noticed my network card is the culprit. It really driving me to nuts, need some suggestion to solve the problem.

My source is FLAC -> foobar2k (wasapi) -> usb dac (Audinst Hud-mx1) -> KRK Rokit 5 G2 studio monitors, TMA-1 headphone

Try updating all your drivers and disable any drivers/services that are running that you don't need..

Additionally check on your background start up applications (the easiest way is to type msconfig in the search bar and press enter).  You'll probably want to disable all non-Microsoft services and all programs in the startup task as they are not essential for windows to run.  However, some programs that you may use may not work so you may need to experiment.

Try disabling the network card to see if that's what's causing the problem.

Settings > Network Connections > Local Area Connection > General > Configure

If that solves the problem, then you'll either have to update the card's drivers or replace the card.

All drivers are updated, and I noticed it is the network card makes latency to my audio when I load pages. Could it be other problem like the laptop's psu, ground issue, usb power unstable?

With one look I can tell you right off the bat that you SHOULD have high cpu numbers judging from all the web pages you have open.  Your computer has to handle each one of those.

Then use Revo Uninstaller and Crap Cleaner found at Filehippo to clean up your PC.

No more likely the driver, my wifi card does the same thing just not that badly i use just use ethernet most the time and just disable the wifi driver.

It only occur when I use foobar2k, other software like AIMP2 or Winamp is fine though

The problem might be the wasapi drivers then, try disabling it.

WLAN adapters are quite problematic with audio latency. All internal and external USB hubs should have their power management settings disabled, not to mention those cpu power savings that cause cpu cycle fluctuations, which increase latency quite a bit. Does your laptop runs an integrated graphics chipset or a dedicated graphics card?

Dedicated graphic cards. If that is the case, would an external usb psu helps? Something like this http://www.aqvox.de/usb-power_en.html

You should head over to http://www.blackviper.com/ .  It has lots of great tips on how to tweak Windows for best performance.

Did some tweak but the problem still there when my cpu in kinda heavy loads...

Could the cpu is the contribute factor of corrupted usb power?

Could you post your laptop specs? Cpu, memory, graphics card, motherboard chipset?

Something like an external PSU would indeed help, as that's one weakness of usb powered DACs.

Also, like I said before, there are a few settings that should be tweaked for best results with audio tasks:

These settings do optimize a windows computer for audio processing. Though it should be checked to see if the latency comes from the usb DAC, which in that case you might need a special hotfix from Microsoft, one that isn't available through windows update.
