FINALLY getting a pair of AV40s.

After months of thinking, I finally decided to pull the trigger on a pair of AV40s. Ordered them from a guy for $120 shipped. Hopefully they are coming in tomorrow. I hope I didn't regret my choice. :]

Feedback is appreciated for those of you who have had experience with these monitors.

Oh hi there wink.gif

Just wondering, what is your music taste? You may be tempted to add a sub depending on what you listen to. Other than the low-end, you will enjoy them very much.

I haved owned the AV40's for about a year. I did pair them with the matching M-Audio SBX10 powered sub. They sound quite good as a 2.1 set up. I feed the analog outs from my Samsung 50' plasma right into the sub and then from the sub to the AV40's.

I'll be acquiring a set of three M5a's soon and the AV40's will get relegated to rear channels. If you think the AV40's sound good, go to Guitar Center and audition a set of M5a's. They'll ruin you. They can be had online for $229/pair at J&R Music world.

Enjoy your AV40's...but consider getting a decently fast sub to give them a little ooomph and extension in the bottom few octaves. wink.gif

Enjoy, I have a pair of av30's in my dorm that I've been using for the last 6 months and I love em. I don't find myself craving more bass, but I'm also a Grado fan, so I may just be allergic to lower frequencies. I may have to look into a sub though, if only for when they are used as speakers for my tv. These are what started me in on this website and others like it, if this is your first mid-fi purchase, prepair to be enlightened.  Sort of like Plato's allegory of the cave, once you've become acclaimated to the light, you can't go back, no matter how hard you try

Wow... I cannot afford that sub. Way too expensive for me. I can hook these up to a TV? How would I do that? o_o

I'm stuck between 2 decisions: Buying a pair of Auralex Mopads for my AV40s, or getting a soundcard? I would like the soundcard to be under $80. Would there be a huge improvement over the onboard audio, or would I have to invest more money? I listen to classical and rock. I don't listen to any type of hip hop or anything whatsoever.

Instead of a sound card, get the NuForce Icon uDAC 2 for @ $129.

It depends on what kind of tv you own. I have a 26" lcd with a headphone jack, and I hooked them up through that. Its pretty much the same way you hook them up to your computer. It greatly improved my television watching. biggrin.gif

Why would I buy an amp for speakers that already have an amp in them?

Best soundcard under $80 is the Xonar DX. I'd sell you mine but I already have a pending sale over on OCN. Id get the soundcard/DAC before those pads.

You can make your own stands too for the price of the pads.

NguyenAdam...

That NuForce DAC is not just an amp... it improves the sound quality of your audio files...
